An Old Friend is the 25th and longest chapter of Eragon. It takes the point of view of Eragon.
Summary[]
Eragon and Brom find Angela's shop. She is quirky, and it takes her a while to answer the question of which house Jeod lives in. She is also trying to prove that all toads are frogs. They find Jeod's house, and Jeod's wife, Helen, greets them. At first she tells them that Jeod is too busy, but they persuade her to bring him outside. Jeod, an old man, is shocked at Brom's presence; he thought Brom was dead. Brom tells him that he was hiding in Carvahall.
They visit, and eventually Brom sends Eragon to check on the horses. Instead, Eragon magically eavesdrops on the men. Brom and Jeod discuss Brom's ring, dwarves, a queen, the Varden, and someone named Ajihad. Eragon later visits with Saphira. Then they plan how they will search the records. Eragon surprises Brom by telling him that he can't read, and Brom surprises Eragon by saying that Garrow could.
