Azlagûr is the Deity of the cult known as the Du Eld Draumar. Working through his "speaker" of the cult he is said to be the Herald of great change in the turning of the era. Among one of the oldest beings of the world, it is unknown exactly who or what Azlagûr actually is and much of his history and motives remain a mystery.

History[]

Ancient Times[]

Azlagûr is described as being one of the oldest beings in Alagaesia and beyond. It is said that he is older than even the Grey Folk, having existed since ancient times alongside the Draumar. Azlagûr is known to be the deity of the Draumar.

In that time, Azlagûr is first mentioned by name when Bachel tortures Murtagh. She presents him as a force who will bring a drastic change to the age and make the world better.

Present Day[]

Azlagûr is described as the “Dreamer of dreams” and one of the first beings in the world, alongside his disciples according to Bachel. Azlagur is usually felt or makes his presence known by interacting with the world through those he chooses to grant his visions, or dreams to. The most potent and powerful of these people would be named “speaker” for the Draumar.

The speaker would dream, and be given glimpses of Azlagûr’s will as do those who serve the speaker and he or she in turn would interpret the visions of Azlagûr.

The well inside of Nal Gorgoth is said to be a source of Azlagûr’s power and as such anyone who is chosen speaker may use this power, as Bachel did to make the ground move as well as the mountains around Nal Gorgoth, something beyond Bachel herself.

When Murtagh dreams, it’s heavily implied that Azlagûr is the one who causes them. Murtagh often dreams of a black sun in the world being heralded by a black dragon of titanic proportions. It’s implied that this is Azlagûr’s physical form. It’s also implied that Murtagh senses something of Azlagûr’s mind as it is so vast and powerful, he shrinks from the touch of it.

When Murtagh finally kills Bachel, it’s implied that from the caves under Nal Gorgoth he feels Azlagûr’s consciousness, which is incredibly vast and hostile.

Personal Information[]

Appearance[]

Not much is known of Azlagûr’s appearance since he only appears in Murtagh’s dreams. He is said to be a massive, wingless black dragon far greater in size than even Shruikan or Belgabad. However, it is difficult to know how reliable this account is as Murtagh was under the effects of the dreams.

Powers and Abilities[]

Azlagûr mostly communicates with his speaker through visions, sometimes of the future. According to both Alin and Bachel, she is able to see the future and this has served her and the Draumar well through the era.

Azlagûr is able to mentally torture people with his visions, as he did to Murtagh and the people of Nal Gorgoth, often granting them visions of world ending events and, sometimes his physical form. This was enough to unsettle even Murtagh.

Azlagûr also has the power to bestow strength upon his speaker, as he did with Bachel through the well in Nal Gorgoth. She was able to use this power to make the entire ground move, including the mountains around the valley (although a more reasonable explanation is that Azlagûr actually shook the ground himself, considering that he is extremely large); something Thorn believed would take an entire horde of Eldunari to accomplish. Bachel is also able to use something called “the breath” to incapacitate someone and almost rob them of their own free will, as Bachel used this on Murtagh and made him her willing slave, despite Murtagh having been shown to have incredible resilience. The "breath" may in fact be a weapon of Azlagûr himself, though whether it is noxious fumes he exudes from his breath or a product of the noxious gases in his lair in Nal Gorgoth's caves is unclear. The foul creatures that live in Nal Gorgoth's pitch-black caves, such as the giant spiders and finger-rats, are said to be parasites of Azlagûr.

Personality[]

Not much is known of Azlagûr’s personality but Azlagûr is described as being incredibly rage-filled according to Murtagh when he touched Azlagûr’s mind. He also described as a vast, ravenous hunger as well.

According to Bachel, Azlagûr wants to remake the world and will stop at nothing to do so, using those around him and torturing them with his visions and creating an entire cult to serve him.

Azlagûr is said to look down on other Dragons, according to Bachel viewing them as “lesser Wyrms” and not being Azlagûr himself. It is implied from Bachel's words and motivations that Azlagûr likewise has no qualms with eliminating other dragons if it serves his purpose.
