Bless the Child, Argetlam is the 53rd chapter of Eragon. It takes the point of view of Eragon.
Summary[]
Eragon and Saphira bless a child (later named Elva) in Tronjheim, using the Ancient Language. He utters the words "Atra gülai un ilian tauthr ono un atra ono waíse skölir frá rauthr.", believing that he blesses the child to be shielded from harm. However, it is later revealed that the spell was badly worded, and as such he accidentally cursed the child to be a shield for others. This causes her to feel (and be able to predict) the pain of those around her, which causes her unnaturally quick growth. Eragon and Saphira, after 'blessing' the child, then head to the Dragon holds above the Star Sapphire.
