Summary[]

In this chapter, Angela talks with Eragon. She tell him that she too intends to go away from the capital, though she want to stay in Alagaësia. She disapproves of Nasuada's plan to spy on every magician in the country. Angela plans to keep an eye on Elva. After they exchange their farewells, Eragon goes to Jeod and Helen, who now own a large trading company. Eragon tell Jeod of his plans to leave the country and asks him to join them on their journey. Jeod declines the offer, however, as he found his new home in Illrea. He tells Eragon, that he belongs to the Arcaena, the order, to which Heslant the Monk belonged as well. He promises to include the account of Eragon's and Saphira's adventures in, Domia abr Wyrda ". After a meal with Roran and Katrina, he tells them about his plans for the future. They argue, but Eragon manages to convince them that the departure is necessary, thus they reluctantly agree. He also invites them to join him, but they refuse to give up Palancar Valley and Carvahall, which they intend to rebuild along with other villagers. He invites them to travel to Ellesmera to spend a few days together and they agree. Then he contacts Orik through a mirror and also tells him about his departure, to which Orik does not oppose, as he too had dwelled upon how to accommodate the dragons. Then they say their farewells. The next day Eragon and Saphira are about to depart from the capital along with Roran, Katrina, Ismira and Arya, when suddenly Birgit and Nolfavrel appear. Birgit wants Roran to pay his debt for Quimby's death. Nasuasa and Katrina try to argue, but Roran knows he must pay his debt. He prefers to die rather than lose respect of the people of Carvahall. He asks Eragon to remove the wards, and Eragon obeys, however he places three new wards on his neck, skull and organs. Birgit cuts at Roran's right palm and then considers the debt paid. Roran doesn't let Eragon heal his hand. Then the five of them climb on the dragons and leave for Beor Mountains.
