A[]Agaravel[]Agaravel was a tamed dragon who fought loyally for the Riders during the Dragon War. She, alongside her rider, was slaughtered by Formora, Kialandí and their dragons, but her Eldunarí was then taken by the two Forsworn and broken to their will to later be unwillingly arrayed against Oromis and Glaedr. She was rescued decades later by Eragon and Arya and taken to the Eastern Reaches to be assisted in recovering from the years of torture she and the other Hearts of Hearts suffered under Galbatorix. Arva's Green Dragon[]Arva's Green was a Dragon was bonded to Arva during The Fall, but, unlike their rider, survived the Forsworn's attack on Ilirea and carried Arva's sister, Naudra, to Du Weldenvarden, where they both died from their wounds and exhaustion. Despite owing no allegiance to the Riders, Belgabad flew to the aid of the Riders as Galbatorix and the Forsworn began slaughtering riders and dragons alike and died in the following battle. He was a distant relative of Saphira through her mother, Vervada. C[]Cuaroc[]Cuaroc was a dragon who lived during the time of the Dragon Riders and was killed during the Fall, but survived in Eldunarí, which was magically linked with a specially-constructed artificial body, allowing the Dragon to control it as his own. He was a guardian of the Vault of Souls and protected Dragon Eldunarí and eggs as a fighter. After the fall of Galbatorix, Cuaroc sailed with Eragon, Saphira and other Eldunarí. E[]Enduriel's Dragon[]Enduriel's Dragon was a dragon of undetermined gender and colour who, alongside its rider, betrayed the Riders and joined the Thirteen twisted Dragons of the Forsworn in attempting to eradicate their own race, which resulted in the other Dragons (bar the 13 traitors) stripping all Thirteen, Enduriel's Dragon amongst them, of their names and identities, leading to the Enduriel's dragon deteriorating into ignorance. Despite this, Galbatorix noted that it was Enduriel's Dragon, rather than Enduriel, who was the cunning one and needed to be watched, even though, with the Banishing of Names, the dragon became little more than a dull beast. Eridor[]Eridor was one of the many dragons that lived during the days of the Dragon Riders. In Eldest, Eridor was said to be the "king of the wild dragons". He was also known as Vanilor's successor, possibly his son. F[]Firnen[]Firnen was a green male dragon bonded to Arya. He hatched at the end of Inheritance soon after the Rider War. His mental voice was very deep, even deeper than Glaedr's. He was temporary mate of Saphira before she left Alagaësia with Eragon and Eldunarí. Formora's Dragon[]Formora's Dragon was a brown who was rendered unnamable and undefinable by The Banishing of Names. Next to nothing is known of it, other then the fact that Formora pursued Oromis and Glaedr on it after they escaped her and Kialandí's clutches. Fundor[]Fundor was a dragon who lived during the age of the Dragon Riders. He was known to have fought a sea serpent during that era. G[]Galbatorix's First Eldunarí[]Galbatorix's First Eldunarí was a young dragon who, with its rider, was twisted by Galbatorix into assisting in murdering an elder after Galbatorix's demand for a new dragon was denied. However, after committing the dark act, Galbatorix turned on the rider and dragon, slaughtered them and seized the dragon's Eldunarí, which, with the help of Durza, he bent to his will Galzra[]Galzra was a dragon during the Dragon Rider's era. Nothing was known about Galzra; he was only mentioned when Brom was suggesting names of dragons to Eragon in Eragon. Glaedr[]Glaedr was a male golden dragon. His Dragon Rider was Oromis. Although Glaedr was a strong and rather large dragon, (Saphira said herself that he was three times bigger than she was), he was disabled - his left foreleg was severed, leaving a white stump in place. Both Glaedr and his Rider had remained in hiding in Du Weldenvarden, before he was killed by Thorn in Brisingr. Glaedr gave his Eldunarí to Eragon, where his consciousness resides after his death. Glaerun's Dragon[]Glaerun's Dragon was a dragon of unknown coloration who was bonded to Glaerun, a member of the 13 Forsworn. Its rider, Glaerun, was killed in Thuviel's explosion on Vroengard. It is unknown whether Glaerun's Dragon survived the explosion, or was also consumed by the blast, though the latter is most likely. Gretiem[]Gretiem was a dragon that lived during the time of the Dragon Riders. H[]Hírador[]Hírador was a male dragon that fought in the Dragon War. He died in an unreasonably strong thunderstorm before becoming one the Eldunarí in the Vault of Souls that assist Eragon. J[]Jarnunvösk[]Jarnunvösk was Galbatorix's first dragon. She died when Galbatorix was still a young Dragon Rider. He went on a trip into the Spine with other Riders who, like him, were overconfident in their abilities. While they traversed the mountain range, a group of Urgals ambushed them, killing Galbatorix's companions. Jarnunvösk was fatally wounded by an arrow to the heart and died in her rider's arms. It was Jarnunvösk's death that began Galbatorix's descent into madness. Jura[]Jura was a male dragon that fought in the Dragon War. This name was mentioned in the list of names that Brom gave Eragon as suggestions for names for Saphira. K[]Kialandí's Dragon[]Kialandí's Dragon was a purple dragon of undetermined gender who was bonded to the elf and Forsworn member Kialandí, but who was stripped of its name by the Banishing of Names. It participated in attempting to capture Glaedr and Oromis, during which it's rider was impaled on the purple's spines (though he survived) L[]Lenora[]Lenora was the name of a female dragon that was in the list of names Brom gave to Eragon as a guideline for a name for Saphira. M[]Miremel[]Miremel was a brown female dragon. It is likely that she perished during the Dragon War. Mimring[]Mimring was a male dragon bonded to Terrin described by Angela in a story about Terrin and the defense of Kvôth. Mimring's original color is not stated, however following a flight over the Beor Mountains, Mimring's scales had 'Become as clear as diamonds', Angela suggests that this is because he flew close to the sun in order to reach the dragons faster, so that they could come to the defense of Kvôth during the War of Iron. The change in Mimring's scales to a unique appearance earned him the title 'Mimring The Brilliant'. Morzan's dragon[]Morzan's dragon was the dragon bonded to Morzan of the Forsworn. The name of Morzan's dragon is unknown, due to the fact that the dragons of the Dragon Riders banished all of the Forsworn's dragons names, but it is likely that his or her color was red, due to the color of the sword, Zar'roc. Not much is known of this dragon, except for the fact that it died when Brom killed Morzan and was the first of Galbatorix's thirteen willing dragon followers. N[]Nithring[]Nithring was a female Dragon. Nothing is known of Nithring except she is the mother of Glaedr and she had an exceptionally long tail. O[]Ohen[]Ohen (also called Ohen the Strong) was a great black dragon during the time of the Dragon Riders. Opheila[]Opheila was a female dragon that lived during the time of the Dragon Riders and fought in the Dragon War. This name was mentioned in the list of names by Brom. He was the great-great-great-grandsire of Vervada, Saphira's mother. Roslarb[]Roslarb was a dragon that lived during the time of the Dragon Riders. This name was mentioned while Brom was giving Eragon a list of names for Saphira. S[]Saphira[]Saphira II, also known as Flametongue by the Urgals, and Saphira Bjartskular by the elves, was a blue female dragon. She was bonded to Eragon as her Dragon Rider after her egg was rescued by the Varden's agents from Galbatorix, who wanted to subdue her with her Rider alive to create a new generation of his Dragons, because she was the last female dragon currently known during the era of the Rider War. She was a very good flier among other Dragons and was able to kill Lethrblaka without being harmed and effectively fight many times with Thorn who was bigger and stronger than hers. After the war she sailed away from Alagaësia with Eragon and Eldunarí to unexplored eastern lands to find a safe place for raising and training the new generation of Dragons and their Riders. Saphira I[]Saphira I was the female dragon of Brom, and Saphira II's namesake. She was killed by the Forsworn during the Fall of the Dragon Riders. She was noted to be mischievous and quick-witted. Shruikan[]Shruikan was a black male dragon unnaturally bonded to Galbatorix. He was thought to be the only dragon who survived the Fall of the Dragon Riders (not including the Forsworn's dragons), because Galbatorix and the Forsworn killed all other dragons. The dragon was raised with Galbatorix's magic to unnaturally big size for his age and during the time of the Rider War one century-old Shruikan was much bigger than eight centuries-old Glaedr. In Inheritance he was killed by Arya in Galbatorix's throne room. Spectral Dragon[]The Spectral Dragon was a dragon that appeared in the form of a tattoo around the elves Iduna and Nëya. This dragon was described as an iridescent tattoo that began with the dragon's tail wrapped around Iduna's left ankle, eventually ending with the head on Nëya's chest. It had "the vibrant appearance of a rainbow," with every scale inked a different color. When Iduna and Nëya danced, the dragon appeared to come to life, rising from the tattoo. T[]Thorn[]Thorn was a red male dragon bonded to Murtagh. He hatched for his Rider at the beginning of the Rider War in the Galbatorix's castle where both were forced by the king to swear an oath of allegiance to him and had to serve the Empire against their will. He fought against Saphira many times and also killed Glaedr's body with help of Galbatorix. However, during the final confrontation he eventually turned against the King and his Dragon and helped Saphira to fight with a gigantic Shruikan. After the end of the war he flew away with his Rider to the north. Thuviel's Dragon[]Thuviel's Dragon was bonded to the elf Thuviel, but was slaughtered by an unclear member of the Forsworn and month before the Battle of Doru Araeba. Thuviel was rendered broken-hearted with his dragon partner's death and more than willing to commit suicide so as to follow his dragon into the Void U[]Umaroth[]Umaroth was a white male dragon bonded to Vrael. He was killed by Galbatorix and Shruikan during the Battle at Doru Araeba, but his soul survived in Eldunarí in the Vault of Souls. He helped Eragon to confront Galbatorix and his Eldunarí and later sailed with them away from Alagaesia. Unnamed White Dragon[]The Unnamed White Dragon was the dragon who negotiated with the Elven Queen Tarmunora, the first Eragon and Bid'Daum for peace treaty between the Dragons and the Elves post-Du Fyrn Skulblaka. Glaedr claimed that he had a name, but could not be represented in any language. Instead, he used images and signs when naming the White Dragon. V[]Valdr[]Valdr was a male dragon who lived during the time of the Dragon Riders and was killed during the Fall but his soul survived as Eldunarí in the Vault of Souls. He was one of the most ancient Eldunarí in the Vault of Souls. Vanilor[]Vanilor was a male dragon who lived during the time of the Dragon Riders as the king of the wild dragons. Eridor was his successor. Vervada[]Vervada was a wild scarelt female dragon and mother of Saphira. She was killed in battle with the Forsworn. Vêrmund the Grim[]Vêrmund the Grim, also known as the Worm of Kulkaras, was a dragon and central antagonist in a tale of the same name. In the tale, he was known for causing chaos and destruction to the Urgal Clan Skgaro and the valley they lived in. He made his roost on the mountain of Kulkaras, and only stirred from slumber when he was angered or hungry. It is unknown if Vêrmund actually existed, or if he was merely a fabrication for the tale, as the legend likely predates the Urgals' arrival in Alagaësia. |

The surviving clan members were Anhûin and her guards. In Eldest he was killed by Murtagh. Hruthmund (legend)[]Hruthmund was a dwarf in legends. According to myth, the Goddess Sindri taught Hruthmund the first form of the Dwarf runes, which became known as the Hruthmundvik or "the scratches of Hruthmund". This event is most likely to have been shortly after the dwarves left the Hadarac Desert for the Beor Mountains. Hruthmund (representative)[]Hruthmund was the main dwarven representative to Eragon and the academy. He gifted Eragon with blackberry mead, as a token of friendship, but argued over when the dwarves as a race would delivery promised supplies. He was a talented swordsman and sparred with Eragon while they waited for the Varden to depart from Belatona. He died in the Catacombs of Dras-Leona, having been impaled by magical amethyst spikes while on a mission to infiltrate the city. His wards protected him for a brief second before being impaled. Eragon would later blame his death on a distraught Elva. Ultimately, he was the only member of Blödhgarm's spellcasters to perish during the war. He was put to rest by the shore of Leona Lake. The elves sang laments so sad that Eragon wept without restraint and animals stopped to listen. Yaela placed an acorn on Wyrden's chest and they sang songs of growth in the ancient language. When the spell was complete, the tree stood twenty feet high. Y[]Yaela[]Yaela was one of Blödhgarm's twelve spellcasters. She was one of two females in Blödhgarm's team with silver hair. Brom stated that Brand followed every regulation but was capable of making his own, even turning down substantial bribes. Bregan[]Bregan, known initially as The Man Who Sees The Lights was a male human who claimed to see energy in the form of lights. He was a soldier of the Varden who fought during the Battle of The Burning Plains. During the battle, an Imperial soldier cut off three of his fingers when he tried to defend himself from a blow. Later, a missile struck him in the foot and his foot got blown off. It was upon receiving this injury that he claimed to see lights. This man had the ability to sense the presence of Eragon, as well as the Belt of Beloth the Wise and the ring Aren. He also described Murtagh Morzansson as if the light shone through him, rather than from him. This was later revealed to be due to the Eldunarí that Galbatorix used to strengthen Murtagh. A healer for the Varden told Eragon not to mind this man, as though he claims to know things, he gets it all from the other patients. Eragon replied that the man had an unusual ability and asked that the healer inform Du Vrangr Gata should his condition change. Eragon would later learn that the man's real name was Bregan and that he had since been employed as a cook, since though he was unable to see in the physical realm, he could always detect where game was hiding. Cawley's farm on Nost Creek was mentioned by Horst as a possible refuge for the children of Carvahall, when the villagers were planning the defense of their village. The villagers decided that Loring was right. Clovis[]Clovis was the owner of several barges in Narda. He was forced to give Roran and the people of Carvahall his barges so that they could sail down to Teirm. He had a daughter named Galina and a wife living in Narda. All of them went to the Spine and then to join the Varden. Elva[]Elva was a baby girl whose guardian asked Eragon to bless her. Saphira touched her brow, leaving a silver star upon her forehead. However, Eragon mistakenly cursed her instead of blessing her because he did not have a firm grasp on the Ancient Language at the time. His "blessing" caused Elva to feel pain from others' misfortunes, often causing her to try and save them from that pain. In Brisingr, Eragon managed to cure her by letting her ignore the others' pain. She later joined Eragon when he fought Galbatorix and became Angela's apprentice around year after the Empire fell. Elva's 12 Imperial Opponents[]These dozen men were troops of the Imperial Army. During the Abduction of Nasuada, the witch-child Elva faced off against a dozen Imperial soldiers, her arms wrapped around herself, apparently deathly ill as she spoke rapidly to her opponents, her small mouth moving in a blur. As she spoke, each man reacted differently: one stood fixed in place, seemingly unable to move; one cringed and covered his face with his hands; one knelt and stabbed himself in the chest with a long dagger; another flung down his weapons and ran off through the camp; and still another babbled like a fool. None lifted their swords against her and none went on to attack anyone else. It is unknown what became of the 11 soldiers who did not commit suicide, but it can be assumed they were either eventually killed, scattered into the countryside or imprisoned in a recently Varden-captured Dras-Leona. Eragon Bromsson[]Eragon (also known as Eragon Shadeslayer and Firesword) was the main protagonist in the Inheritance Cycle. He was the son of Brom and Selena and also had a cousin named Roran, whom he declared his true brother. Murtagh was his half-brother seeing as Selena sneaked away from Morzan to have Eragon with Brom. However she left him with her brother Garrow, who raised him with his own son Roran. At the age of fifteen Eragon became a Dragon Rider bonded with a blue female dragon named Saphira. Soon after that two Ra'zac sent by the Empire to capture him and his dragon killed his uncle, so he had to leave Carvahall with Saphira and Brom due to threat from the Empire. He was trained by Dragon Riders Brom and later Oromis, and despite his short time of training he became a powerful swordsman and spellcaster during the year, partially because he was magically transfigurated into elf-human hybrid during the Blood-Oath Celebration. He also was able to use non-verbal magic spells that allowed him to defeat Galbatorix despite that the king knew the Name of Names and was more powerful magician and warrior than him. Finally he sailed away from Alagaësia with Saphira and Eldunarí to eastern lands to found a safe place for rising and training Dragons and their Riders. Ertharis[]Ertharis was a member of the Arcaena who resided at a monastery in the Spine. Jeod sent his history of the Rider War to Ertharis with the courier Reldan. Edric[]Edric was captain of a mission where Roran was serving as second-in-command. Edric ordered Roran and another soldier, Sand, to rush in, but when Edric and his squad failed, Roran didn't charge, and won by tricking the soldiers and killing 193 enemy soldiers by himself. However, Roran had disobeyed Edric's orders, so he was relinquished from command and had to surrender his weapons and tend to the horses. Once they returned, Nasuada made sure that Edric was no longer a captain, as she told Roran. Essie[]Essie is the young daughter of Sigling (the owner of the Fulsome Feast). She shares her story about a mean girl named Hjordis who forces her to do things to her friends, and her plans of running away in response with Murtagh while he is waiting for his "company" to arrive. Murtagh's 'company' proves violent and invulnerable to the Name of the Ancient language, so he enchants a fork to kill the men. Afterward, he heals a scar Essie has from a boiling pot her father spilt on her accidently, and gives Essie a fork which she names 'Mister Stabby.' Ethlbert[]Ethlbert was a villager of Carvahall. His family was one of three who chose to remain in the village after the Battle of Carvahall (despite the exodus led by Roran), along with the families of Parr and Knute. Though they most likely perished when the soldiers ransacked the village, the fate of Ethlbert and his family is unknown. Though he hated the Empire just as much as any of Carvahall, he also distrusted the people of Surda as well, seeing them as barbarians, which caused him to refuse to flee to the southern nation for safety, instead intending to sneak past the Imperial soldiers and find refuge in nearby Therinsford, a choice that would likely be suicidal. Ethlebert's Family[]Ethlbert's Family is the family of Ethlbert. They chose to stay in Carvahall along with Knute's and Parr's families when the rest of the other villagers led by Roran left Carvahall. F[]Sagabato-no Inapashunna Fadawar[]Sagabato-no Inapashunna Fadawar was the chief of one of the nomadic, dark-skinned human tribes that supported the Varden. He was also Nasuada's cousin on her mother's side. After the Battle of The Burning Plains, he spoke for all of the nomadic tribes of Nasuada's kinsmen to ask for positions of leadership in the Varden. Nasuada refused, saying that the tribes had contributed very little to the Varden, and she couldn't give such positions simply because Fadawar and the others were related to her. Fadawar was enraged and challenged Nasuada for the right to lead the Varden by the Trial of the Long Knives. He lost this trial, and by doing so, he lost the right to lead his own tribe, which Nasuada restored herself. Nasuada's success also ensured that more people saw her as a good leader, including Elessari. Falberd[]Falberd was a member of the Council of Elders. He was a human male. The other members in the Council of Elders were: Jörmundur, Umérth, Sabrae and Elessari. Farica[]Farica was the handmaiden of Nasuada, and was described as an old woman. She was skilled in weaving and was very trusted by Nasuada, so it is possible Nasuada might have know her before she was leader of the Varden. Nasuada valued Farica's advice, opinions and reactions. Farica stated that she felt that many problems arose from money and that if one had enough of it, they would be able to rule unchallenged. Farold[]Farold was a human who lived in Carvahall. He died in the Battle of Carvahall. Felda[]Felda was the mother of Mandel. Her husband, Byrd, was murdered by Sloan. She was also one of the people who traveled with Roran to Surda. She traveled with Roran to Surda, and asked him to speak with Mandel about the unhealthy habit of playing dice with the sailors on Clovis' barges. Felda's Daughter[]Felda's Daughter, her name is unknown, was the daughter of Felda and Byrd and the little sister of Mandel. When she was only a child her father died and her family left Carvahall and joined the Varden. Ferros[]Ferros was an Imperial Lord mentioned by Murtagh in a hallucination designed to break Nasuada. His stories were apparently interminable. Ferth[]Ferth was a soldier in the Varden under Martland Redbeard. He appeared in For My Love when Halmar told him the tale of Martland's grandfather. He was killed during a raid on one of the Broddring Empire's supply trains. Fisk[]Fisk was a carpenter from Carvahall. He had a wife named Isold. Before the exodus of Carvahall, he made a staff for Roran, which Roran gave to Eragon, who later gave it to Sloan. Fletcher Hardensson[]Fletcher Hardensson was a possible member of the Nighthawks. He mistook Roran and Katrina (who were riding Saphira) for Eragon after the Assault on Helgrind. He used a bow. In Brisingr, he is described as: "A thin man with a large, untrimmed beard." Nasuada notes that he has very sharp eyes, which is questionable but may have been intended sarcastically. Flint[]Flint was a sailor under the command of Clovis. Fredric[]Fredric was the male human weaponsmaster of Tronjheim. He was described to have an untidy beard and rather muscular. He also wore a set of ox-hide armor and had a very long two-handed sword which was "about as long as Eragon's body". Fredric had a strong dislike for The Twins, perhaps due to his inherent distrust of magic. Later, after Eragon's return from Helgrind, he assisted Eragon in getting a new sword to replace Zar'roc, which he had lost in the Battle of The Burning Plains. Frewin[]Frewin was a sailor under Torson on the barges of Clovis. He fell in love with Odele, one of the former Carvahall residents, during the journey to Teirm. Later, Frewin deserted Torson as he intended to marry Odele. Her family disapproved but Roran advised them not to criticize the couple. Fuller[]Fuller was a soldier in the Varden. Ehen Roran was accused of disobeying orders by Captain Edric and was relieved of command by the captain, Edric put Fuller in charge of their company of soldiers. Fuller continued in Roran's role until their return to the main camp and Lady Nasuada's judgment. G[]Galbatorix[]Galbatorix was the king of the Empire. Once a Dragon Rider, he eventually turned against the order and brought about their downfall, believing they had caused the death of his first dragon. He founded a rebellious and ruthless group of 13 traitor riders, the Forsworn, and then established the Empire. He was Eragon's main antagonist, and had a black dragon named Shruikan, whom he forced to obey him with black magic. Using the power of multiple Eldunarí he became the most powerful magician in Alagaësia. Being too presumptuous, he didn't participated in the Rider War directly or used his dragon, and preferred to act through his servants until the final confrontation. He was a first person who discovered the Name of Names and used it to create a strong spells against the Varden and prevent of using Ancient Language to create a spells. However Eragon used a non-verbal Empathy Spell that forced him to understand and feel all the emotions and pain he had invoked in others since he was born, and being unable to suffer any more and stop this effect, he eventually committed a suicide by exploding his body into an annihilation-like explosion. Galiana[]Lady Galiana was the daughter of Lord Halstead of Aroughs and the sister of Tharos the Quick. She died with her father while trapped by the Varden in the chaos after the siege, suffocating in the smoke from the fire Roran had ordered made in an attempt to drive Halstead, Galiana and their men out from a cellar they had hidden in, which Roran regretted. Later, Tharos swore that he would kill Roran to avenge her, revealing that they were close. Galina[]Galina was the daughter of Clovis, the owner of several barges in Narda. Galton[]Galton was a merchant on Market Street in Teirm, dealing in groceries. Jeod described him as an honest man who treated his customers true and fair Gamble[]Gamble was a member of the Varden. Gamble was charged with theft and destruction of property without offering proper recompense because he stole and ate thirteen chickens from a Surdan farmer. Nasuada sentenced him to pay a copper for each chicken he stole. Gamble had a way with words and Nasuada knew that "No matter its rough housing, his tongue was as clever as a jester's." Nasuada asked her handmaiden, Farica, to reassign Gamble, giving him some sort of job in which he would have full rations, such as quartermaster. Prior to that, Gamble worked as a member of one of the work gangs in the quarry. Gareth[]Gareth was the bartender of the Green Chestnut Inn in Teirm, who was known to be greedy. Gareth only appears in Eragon. Garner[]Garner was a human who lived in Carvahall. He died in the Battle of Carvahall. Garrow Cadocsson[]Garrow Cadocsson was a male human. He was the father of Roran, the uncle of Eragon and Murtagh, the brother of Selena, the son of Cadoc, and the late Marian's husband. Eragon lived with him until Saphira hatched. Garrow was attacked by the Ra'zac, and later died of his injuries, while the Ra'zac were looking for Saphira's egg. Garven[]Garven was the captain of the Nighthawks. He was also the one chosen to probe the minds of the twelve elves who came with Blödhgarm to protect Eragon. He came out of this experience changed, as no normal human can come out of contact with an elves' mind and remain unscathed. It is unlikely that Garven can use magic. Following Nasuada's capture at the hands of Murtagh, Garven and the surviving Nighthawks become Eragon's guards alongside the elves. It is mentioned that he had recovered from his experience, but would occasionally enter dream-like trances. He knew of Eragon's journey to Vroengard. Ged[]Ged was a villager from Carvahall who died during the Battle of Carvahall. Gedric[]Gedric was the tanner of the village of Carvahall. Eragon stole three ox hides from Gedric prior to his departure from Carvahall with Brom and Saphira. He used them to make a saddle for Saphira. Eragon later repaid Gedric by giving him a small sphere of gold. Gertrude[]Gertrude was the healer in Carvahall. She was the one that tended to Garrow and Eragon after the villagers found them after the destruction of the farm. However, even with her abilities, she was unable to save Garrow. She later tended to the wounded during the Battle of Carvahall, Roran's mutilated shoulder, and traveled with him to Surda and The Burning Plains. Graytooth[]Graytooth was a male human scout and soldier in King Orrin's army. He was described as being middle-aged and stout. His only appearance was in Brisingr, where Orrin tossed the severed human head of one of the Imperial Laughing Dead to Graytooth and told him to mount every severed head of the Laughing Dead on poles to show that the rebels are not afraid of Galbatorix's underhand tricks. Greta[]Greta was the faithful caretaker of Elva. While in Farthen Dûr, she demanded that Eragon bless her charge. When the Varden left Farthen Dûr to set up camp in Surda, Greta continued to care for Elva there. When Eragon cures Elva after she deserts Greta, she begs Eragon to take care of her. Grieg[]Grieg was the leader of a group of slavers in the Beor Mountains that tried to enslave Eragon and Murtagh when they were on their way to Farthen Dûr. Grieg's group of slavers were not injured by Eragon or Murtagh but were frightened off by Saphira when she made her appearance. Torkenbrand was the only slaver killed, who fell off of his horse and was beheaded by Murtagh in cold blood. Grieg might have taken his report to alert the Broddring Empire that a Dragon Rider was in the Beor Mountains afterwards but it's also likely that the Urgal army that was heading to Tronjheim may have killed the slavers if they got in the way. Gull[]Gull Waresson, son of Ware, was a Varden archer and the loving husband of Signa. Gull asked Eragon to heal his wife Signa, who was dying of a tumor. Eragon successfully removed the growth, an act for which Gull exhibited "a quarter-hour of profuse thanks". Gull was aged around thirty at the time of the Rider War. He wore a close-cropped beard, a ponytail and spoke with a southern accent, implying that he was a resident of Petrøvya. His clothes were rough and he had sustained an injury to his upper left arm. Gunnar[]Gunnar was a sailor employed by Clovis. According to Mandel, Gunnar knew a man in Cithrí who could hit a flying crow with his knife eight times out of ten. Roran reminded Mandel that, in battle, you are in danger on the two times out of ten that you miss. H[]Haberth[]Haberth was a horse-breeder in Therinsford. He sold Snowfire and Cadoc to Brom and Eragon. Hadamanara-no Dachu Taganna[]Hadamanara-no Dachu Taganna was a merchant of the Wandering Tribes and a friend of Nasuada. When she was young, she used to visit his market stall, where he would show her the knives and daggers he sold. Haeg[]Haeg was a human sorcerer who lived in the Hadarac Desert. He rescued the wandering orphan, Carsaib, and took him as an apprentice, teaching him how to use spirits. Haeg was later killed by bandits; Carsaib tried to use his knowledge of sorcery to exact revenge, but instead was possessed by the spirits he summoned and became the Shade known as Durza. Hale[]Hale was a villager of Carvahall. He was killed in the Battle of Carvahall. Halmar[]Halmar was a soldier of the Varden under Roran. He first appeared when he told Ferth about Martland Redbeard. Later, he fought the Laughing Dead, and dueled three at once before being rescued by Roran. Halstead[]Halstead was the Imperial lord of Aroughs and earl of Fenmark during the Rider War. He is known to have had seven sons, all but the youngest of whom (Tharos) having fled or gone into hiding. He also had at least one daughter, Galiana. After the end of the Siege of Aroughs, he hid in a wine cellar. Rather than risk Varden lives trying to capture him, Roran ordered his men to ignite pots of oil to smoke him out. Halstead waited too long and was suffocated by the fumes. Hamill[]Hamill was a merchant by the docks in Teirm. He dealt in whatever is required to outfit a ship for a long voyage at sea. Jeod described him as an honest man who treats his customers true and fair. Hamlin[]Hamlin was an Imperial earl who, following the Battle of Urû'baen, led several hundred former Imperial soldiers on raids against Gil'ead and travellers on the surrounding roads. This rebellion started a month after winter broke and like the uprising of Tharos in Aroughs, lasted several months. Hamund Loringsson[]Hamund Loringsson lived in Carvahall. He was a son of Loring and his brothers were Darmmen and Larne. He was one of the first villagers who fought back the Ra'zac in the Battle of Carvahall. Hargrove[]Hargrove was a one-legged man who was a master of telepathy and "mindbreaking". He taught Nasuada how to mentally shield her mind. He was probably affiliated with, or loyal to the Varden. Harald[]Harald was a soldier who fought for the Varden. He fought under the command of Roran. Harald was extremely loyal, and offered to betray Roran's captain, Edric, for him. Harwin[]Harwin was a male human guard who, by mistake, shot arrows at Eragon and Saphira because he thought that they were the enemy. It is known that all of his arrows had white lines on them. Hefring[]Hefring was the name of the thief who stole Saphira's egg. It is still unknown if he is alive or dead, although it is likely he is dead, as Morzan found him and retrieved the egg. He fled north because of the great interference caused by the Eldunari inside the Vault of Souls. Helen[]Helen was a female human. She was the wife of Jeod. Their relationship was an unhappy one; it was often disrupted due to Jeod's business problems, and, because of that, they were constantly arguing with each other. They eventually made up, however, and decided to start anew when Roran and the rest of Carvahall arrived at Teirm. Together, they planned their journey to Surda to seek the Varden and escape the Empire. Hern[]Hern was a member of the Arcaena who dwelt at their Reliquary in the Spine. He worked on the illumination of manuscripts and his work was enquired about by Jeod in his letter to Ertharis. Heslant the Monk[]Heslant the Monk was the author of the Domia abr Wyrda (Dominance of Fate), a complete chronicle of the history of Alagaësia, starting from the time the elves landed in Alagaësia to ending a few decades before Eragon's time. The book was declared blasphemous, and was banned by the Empire. Heslant was declared a heretic and was executed by being burned at the stake. Helsant was also a member of a secretive sect near Kuasta that believes all knowledge is sacred. The sect seeks to record everything for a time when they believe an unspecified cataclysm will destroy all civilizations in Alagaësia. Hida[]Hida was an elderly villager from Carvahall who accompanied Roran when he led an Exodus from Carvahall to Narda, but froze to death in the Spine. She was seemingly a close friend or acquaintance of Roran, Garrow, Eragon and their family or of Katrina's clan, for Eragon, while beholding his cousin/surrogate brother's marriage to Katrina, listed her among the individuals who's deaths prevented them from attending the union. High Priest of Helgrind[]The High Priest of Helgrind was the leader of the Helgrind religion. It was described as neither male nor female and was thus referred to as "it". As events in Inheritance showed, it was very skilled in mental combat, taking on a Dragon Rider (Eragon), an elf (Arya), a werecat (Solembum), as well as Angela the Herbalist at once. The High Priest was overall extremely deformed. It had no arms or legs, it didn't appear as a man or a woman and was classified as genderless by Eragon. Atop its head was a large crest. Holcomb[]Holcomb was Brom's father, Nelda's husband, and Eragon's paternal grandfather. He lived in Kuasta with his family of presumably wealthy illuminators, but was separated from his son after a blue dragon hatched to him and he left for Ilirea to train as a rider. Kuasta was so isolated by the Spine that it became a peculiar place, full of strange customs and superstitions, so Holcomb probably was very superstitious, along with his family. Hope Elainsdaughter[]Hope Elainsdaughter was the daughter of Horst and Elain. She was born shortly after the Battle of Belatona, in the night after the forged alliance between rebels and werecats. In spite of previous concerns that Elain might suffer a miscarriage, the child was born healthy except for a cleft lip, which Eragon healed through using complex magic which he placed within a song, with Saphira's help. Horst[]Horst was a blacksmith of the village of Carvahall. He was a friend of Eragon and Roran. He was married to Elain and had two sons, Albriech and Baldor, as well as a later-on daughter named Hope. Horst was also one of the villagers who traveled with Roran to Surda and joined the Varden, becoming a blacksmith there. I[]Ingvar[]Ingvar was the father of Tenga. Given Tenga's extrodinary age (over 1'200 years), it is unclear if Ingvar similarly possessed an extended lifespan/immortality (perhaps being of Grey Folk descent) or not. No more is known about him, however, other than his mentioning by his son. The name Ingvar is an Norse first name for males, common in Scandinavia, meaning protected by Ing (i.e. Freyr). Many notable Scandinavians have had this name, for example Ingvar Kamprad and the legendary Swedish King Ingvar. Irwin[]Irwin was the prime minister of Surda during the Dragon War. Despite his calling Elva an "abomination", Irwin is considered by those under him to be a fair man of honour who has dedicated his life to bettering his nation. Ismira[]Ismira was Sloan's wife and the mother of Katrina. She perished when she accidentally fell off of the top of the Igualda Falls in The Spine while picking wild flowers. Ismira is said to have been a good woman, as all of Carvahall remembered her as a sweet, beautiful woman who had a tragic death. She was close friends with Birgit and her close friend would one day marry her daughter to Roran in Ismira's absence. Sloan constantly mourned his wife and this is evidence of a loving and close relationship with her husband, as well as of Ismira's character and moral standing. Ismira Katrinasdaughter[]Ismira Stronghammer was the daughter born to Katrina and Roran in the final book and Eragon's first cousin once removed/adoptive niece. She was named in honor of Katrina's late mother. The child was conceived before Roran and Katrina were officially wed, although the couple was married shortly after they realised Katrina was with child. Besides themselves, only Eragon and Nasuada were aware of the illegitimacy of the pregnancy, while everyone else believed the child was conceived after the wedding. Katrina stated that she would do anything possible to protect her child and even considered leaving the Varden after Ismira's birth to care for her in an environment not so threatened by war and struggle. Ismira was born a healthy baby with a lock of red hair upon her head and an especially loud cry. Eragon commented that she had a strong grip, as she grasped his finger in her small hand. She was named after Katrina's late mother. She takes her father's nickname, 'Stronghammer', as her last last name opposed to using the traditional human naming scheme (in which case she would have been called 'Katrinadaughter'). Isold[]Isold was the wife of Fisk. They lived in Carvahall before the two travelled with Roran to Surda and were enlisted into the ranks of the Varden. Ivor[]Ivor was a farmer who lived in Carvahall. During the evacuation of the residents of Carvahall to the Varden in Surda, Ivor decided to stay, as his uncle Svart refused to go and Ivor doubted he could leave his farm anyway. Ivor's believed demise was a sadness to Roran, who knew him well. J[]Jarek[]Jarek is the chief mason of the Earl of Ceunon (perhaps Lord Tarrant) and the father of Hjordis. He was an individual of great influence in Ceunon, owning a house besides the castle, but his position resulted in his daughter gaining a feeling of superiority over children like Essie, though whether Jarek, who always frequented the inn belonging to Essie's family with the Mason's Guild during the Solstice Celebration, knew of his child's bullying behaviour. If Hjordis was to be believed, however, she possessed a degree of influence over her sire, as she was apparently confident she could persuade him to refuse to use the Fulsome Feast Inn. The inn, however, despite the Masons' Guild's spending a great amount of money their, could still survive without the payment, though whether it came down to this is unknown. Jarsha[]Jarsha was a young messenger for the Council of Elders of the Varden. He was introduced in the beginning of Eldest, when Eragon and Saphira were in the kitchen at Farthen Dûr. Jeod Longshanks[]Jeod Longshanks was a male human. He was a member of the Varden and was a close friend of Brom who assisted him in liberating Saphira's egg. He was married to Helen, and was one of the few people in Alagaësia to own a copy of the Domia abr Wyrda which he gave to Eragon. During the Varden's campaign, who he joined after fleeing Tierm with Roran, Helen and many of Carvahall's villagers, Jeod, as well as serving as a common swordsman, also studyed the histories of the cities the Varden had to capture for secret entrances so as to avoid would could be unnecessary bloodshed, revealing a secret passage into Dras-Leona that aided greating in the Varden's taking of the city. Jörmundur[]Jörmundur was a member of the Varden. He was Ajihad's right-hand man, mostly dealing with military matters (a role he continued during Nasuada and then Eragon's tenures). He was also a member of the Council of Elders, and acted as an intermediary to Ajihad for them. Jörmundur's son[]Jörmundur's son was the son of two members of the Varden, Jörmundur and his wife. When the Varden was moved to Aberon, he was briefly ill, but later recovered. Jörmundur clearly deeply loved his son, defusing to see him or his mother cut down by the invading Urgals and showing relief when Aijhad revealed that all the Varden's women and children were being evacuted. Jörmundur's Wife[]Jörmundur's wife was married to Jörmundur and had a son with him. She was also a member of the Varden. She and Jörmundur obviously have a close relationship, as Jörmundur was quick to question if the Varden's innocent would be safe after receiving word that the Urgals were invading, stating who would not she his wife and son struck down by Urgals and showing obvious relief when Ajihad told him that all of the child and woman who were not fighting were to be evacuated. K[]Katrina[]Katrina was a villager from Carvahall. Her father was Sloan and her mother was Ismira. She was in love with Roran, despite her sire's obvious disdain for Garrowsson's family, traveling with him to Surda and eventually marrying him after becoming pregnant with his child, whom she named after her late mother. Kedar[]Kedar was the father of Dahwar. No more is known about him. Kelby[]Kelby was a person living in Carvahall who died battling the Imperial Army in the Battle of Carvahall. Kelton[]Kelton was the blacksmith who finished Horst's training to become a smith. Horst considered Kelton a vile old man, but skilled at what he did. According to Horst, by the time his training with Kelton was finished, he did not know whether to thank him or curse him, as it was during his apprentiship under Kelton that he met his future wife, Elain. Horst met Kelton in Ceunon. Kinnell[]Kinnell was a master shipwright who constructed the Dragon Wing for the Blackmoor Shipping Company, a front organization of the Broddring Empire. Kiselt[]Kiselt was a farmer and villager of Carvahall. In Eldest, Kiselt was one of the villagers who claimed that the decision to attack the Ra'zac and their Imperial soldiers was both dangerous and foolish. He argued with Horst in Diamonds in the Night over this, claiming that the Empire had them surrounded. In Wounds of the Past, Kiselt outlined the state of Carvahall's meager supplies. Despite his arguments, however, Kiselt and his enttire clan followed Roran into the Spine during the mass exodus and escaped to Surda. Knute[]Knute was a villager of Carvahall. He and his family was one of three who chose to remain in the village despite the exodus led by Roran, along with the families of the deceased Parr and of Ethlbert, as well as Ivor and Svart. Though they most likely perished when the soldiers ransacked Carvahall, the fate of Knute and his family is unknown. Knute's family[]Knute's family was the family of Knute, a Carvahall villager. They remained in Carvahall while Roran, Birgit, Horst, Gertrude, and many others left the village. They perished when Carvahall was razed to the ground by the Imperial Army. L[]Lang[]Lang was one of the Varden instructors in weapons training- he 'taught the arts of war'. He was seen in the Brisingr chapter A Delicate Matter, sparring with and defeating Albriech and Baldor simultaneously. He was "swarthy" and "battle-scarred" but a formidable warrior who could fight several Imperial soldiers at once and best Roran in sword combat. Langward[]Langward was a soldier in the Imperial Army who scoured the countryside in search of Eragon after the death of the Ra'zac. During Eragon's travel to the Varden from Eastcroft, Eragon and Arya came across a patrol of Galbatorix's soldiers. When his commander halted the company and began questioning Eragon about what they were doing in those parts, Langward was ordered to search their belongings, finding Eragon's armor. His commander then ordered Eragon and Arya to be tied up, but Eragon and Arya resisted, killing the commander and his company, Langward included. Larkin[]Larkin was a former king of the country of Surda. His son, Orrin, succeeded him to the throne after his death. He was visited by a young Nasuada before the war against Galbatorix and the future leader of the Varden knew him as a good, kind man. He is mentioned occasionally by his son, who, as the Varden leaders discuss who should succeed Galbatorix, Orrin, who is attempting a claim, states that if his father had been there, only to be interrupted by Arya, who tells the monarch "Were your father, King Larkin, still alive, he would not be sitting there bemoaning how others see him; he would be doing something about it.” implying that Larkin was a leader who did not argue when he knew there was no purpose. Larne[]Larne lived in Carvahall. He was a son of Loring the shoemaker and his two brothers were Darmmen and Hamund. He was one of the first villagers who fought against the Ra'zac and the Imperial Army in the Battle of Carvahall. Lenna[]Lenna was the wife of Delwin and the mother to Elmundand other five children. She was also the sister of Birgit, aunt of Nolfavrell, sister-in-law of Quimby and daughter of Mardra, although she did not seem to share the personal vendetta Birgit held for Roran regarding his rother in the death of Lenna's brother-in-law. She, along with her husband, her sister and some widow women, were one of the first villagers of Carvahall to follow Roran to Surda. Then she joined the Varden, but was widowed during the Rider War when Delwin was killed while attempting to claim Urû'baen. Linden[]Linden was a member of the Varden and Martland Redbeard's company while he was a captain. Martland Redbeard ordered the company spellcaster, Carn, to heal Linden and Welmar after the a conflict with the Laughing Dead. They had attacked and destroyed an Imperial Army supply convoy alongside Roran. Loften[]Loften was a soldier for the Varden who accompanied Roran on a supply train raid in Brisingr. Lorana[]Lady Lorana was the Governor of Feinster, a port city residing in the Southern part of the Broddring Empire, and was forced to swear an oath in the Ancient Language to serve King Galbatorix, the king threatening to destroy her city and kill all her subjects if she did not comply to his demands. Lorana was an extremely kind and just ruler, earning her the love and devotion of Feinster's citizens and inspired great loyalty among her soldiers and subjects. She allowed a small portion of Galbatorix's forces to reside in her city walls after The Battle of The Burning Plains in an attempt to wear out the approaching Varden forces, although most of the soldiers declared they would not swear loyalty to the king even if he held a dagger to their throat, stating their loyalty was to Lady Lorana. She sent out battalions of soldiers to pester and stall the Varden and during the Battle of Feinster she locked herself within her city's keep with loyal soldiers guarding the courtyard while her army battled against the invading forces of the Varden, ordering her warriors to protect the city's inhabitants. She retreated to the top of her tower where she was joined by three dark hooded spell casters Galbatorix had sent to help defend the city. The three magicians assessed the situation and deemed the battle hopeless, so attempted to create a Shade to do as much harm as they could to the Varden at the risk of their own lives. Lady Lorana, unable to raise a hand against Galbatorix's subjects, nor order them to surrender as they only responded to orders of the king and his new rider, pleaded with Eragon and Arya to stop them before they released a Shade onto her city. The combined forces of Arya, Eragon and Saphira helped them kill two of the magicians while the third was able to raise a Shade named Varaug before being killed herself by Arya. With the help of Eragon and Saphira, Arya also managed to stab the Shade in the heart and Lady Lorana expressed her gratitude towards them and allowed them to capture her, her priorities shifting immediately towards the safety of her people at the hands of the Varden, concerned that the Varden might plunder her now-almost-defenseless city and would meet with Nasuada to discuss her citizens fate. The last remaining forces of Feinster surrendered after seeing Lady Lorana had been captured and despite being on opposite sides of the war, she said she admired Eragon's bravery and prowess, as well as bade him farewell before being taken away by Jörmundur to discuss the fate of her citizens. After Galbatorix's death and the end of the Rider War, Lorana and the rest of the citizens of Feinster who's oaths of loyalty to Galbatorix in the Ancient Language was forced upon them by Galbatorix's agents were released from their oaths by Eragon using the Name of the Ancient Language. Due to her willing surrender to the Varden, her kindness to her subjects and the fact she only supported Galbatorix out of concern for her subjects, it can be assumed that Lorana returned to her position as ruler of Feinster, now under King Orrin's rule and part of a now-expanded Surda. Loring[]Loring lived in Carvahall as a shoemaker, caring for three sons. When Roran and Katrina announced that they were engaged, he advised Roran that while they would all rather have the Ra'zac leave them alone, it was something to be grateful for that they had gotten engaged at that moment, since they would be forgotten amid the rest of the excitement instead of being gossiped about for months. He was a hot-tempered man, who passionately hoped Carvahall would agree to wipe out the soldiers during the siege of Carvahall. After the bulk of Carvahall crossed the Spine and reached Narda, he accompanied Roran, Horst, Gertrude, and others into Narda to seek transport to Teirm. M[]Mandel[]Mandel was the son of Byrd and Felda. He was the oldest of their children. After his father was murdered by Sloan, he traveled with the other villagers to Surda. Along the way, they took Clovis' barges from Narda. While traveling on the barges, he played dice with the sailors and lost food. Roran, after learning about the matter, warned him about his unhealthy habit. Later, Roran gave him the task of delivering the news of their departure to Surda with Jeod. Mandel had proven himself among the Varden's warriors during the battles for Feinster and Belatona against the Broddring Empire. After capturing Belatona, Roran had chosen Mandel along with four others to go with him on his mission to capture the city of Aroughs. Marcus Tábor[]Marcus Tábor was the lord of Dras-Leona. He abused his power, however, and for the first time in nearly ten years, King Galbatorix left the capital city of Urû'baen to put an end to Tábor's rule. Coincidentally, his visit was very close to the time Eragon and Brom were in Dras-Leona, searching for the Ra'zac. The result of this visit is unknown. Mardra[]Mardra lived in Carvahall. She was the mother of Birgit and Lenna. Marian[]Marian was the wife of Garrow and mother of Roran. Garrow was responsible for raising their nephew, Eragon, as well as their son after Marian's death. Selena was the mother of Eragon and left him in their care. Eragon was disappointed, later in life, to learn that Marian was not his actual mother. Marian died some time prior to the finding of Saphira's egg. Marelda[]Lady Marelda of Langfeld was an ancestor of King Orrin and the founder of Surda. Shortly after the Fall of the Dragon Riders, Lady Marelda decided to secede from the Broddring Empire. Under her command, the Surdan army defeated the Imperial Army at Cithrí, resulting in the creation of Surda, an independent nation. King Galbatorix was occupied elsewhere and hence took no part in the battle. It is stated that if Galbatorix and Shruikan had joined the Imperial forces, Marelda would have lost and the Varden may never have been formed. Martin[]Martin was a man whom Eragon and Brom met in the Green Chestnut bar in Teirm. Brom was trying to bribe the bartender, Gareth, to tell him where Jeod lived when Martin interrupted and told Brom where Jeod lived without requiring a bribe. It is known that Martin made a living guarding ships against pirates. Martland Redbeard[]Martland Redbeard was a commander in the Varden during the time of the Rider War. He was the disposed Earl of Thun. He led a troop of Varden warriors that included Roran against the Empire. In a bloody skirmish, one of the Laughing Dead, that was thought to be dead, flipped over and dismembered Martland's left hand. Nasuada considered making Redbeard an adviser, which was supported by Jörmundur. After the Varden succeeded in laying Siege to Dras-Leona, Martland was placed in command over the Varden warriors left in the city to keep in under the rebel group's control and track down as many of Galbatorix's agents as they could. As the Varden marched north, following the shore of the neighboring lake, a constant stream of messengers had ridden back and forth between the Varden and Dras-Leona as Martland and Nasuada conferred about the numerous issues attending the governance of the city. Soon before the Varden (now under the command of Eragon) began their attack on Urû'baen, Martland and his soldiers were summoned and participated in the battle. Melkolf[]Melkolf was one of the villagers of Carvahall. He died in the Battle of Carvahall. Merlock[]Merlock was a member of the Traders who generally visited Carvahall every year. He specialized in trinkets and pieces of jewelry. It was he to whom Eragon went to try to sell and identify Saphira's egg in Eragon. Merlock told them that the "stone" was hollow and that there might be other people who would like to spend their money on items like this. However, Merlock did not buy the egg because he said he didn't know the value and didn't want to spend the time looking for someone who might want to buy it. Moratensis[]Moratensis was a man who, in myth, materialized out of an enchanted fountain when a maiden wished for a perfect husband. The materialisation of Moratensis is considered an example of wild magic in Alagaësia. Morn[]Morn was the man who owned the Seven Sheaves, the tavern in Carvahall. He was described as having a face that looked like he had rested it on a grinding wheel, because the bottom half of his face was short and mashed. He was married to a woman named Tara. He knew Quimby and was upset when he was killed, as well as was friendly towwards Roran and Eragon. He left Carvahall with Roran to go to Surda, and brought the remainder of his beer and mead with him, joining the Varden in the process. Mortenson[]Mortenson was a member of the Varden under Roran who died after being hit by a crossbow bolt meant for his commander: the would-be assassin escaped back into Belatona. Morzan[]Morzan was a Dragon Rider and the first and last of the Forsworn that served Galbatorix. He was the husband of Selena, the wielder of Zar'roc, and the father of Murtagh. He became the greatest of all the Empire's supporters. Although he does not make a physical appearance in the books (having been killed by Brom long before they started), his legacy has a lasting impact on Eragon's quest. Murtagh[]Murtagh Morzansson was a male human who championed the cause of the Empire. He was the son of Selena and Morzan, the man who betrayed the Dragon Riders to Galbatorix and helped destroy them all. He was the elder of Selena's two children (the other child was Eragon) and the only one of whom who was born legitimately. He accompanied Eragon and Saphira on their way to Farthen Dûr, but later he was captured by the twins and through the knowledge of his true name by Galbatorix he was forced to swear an oath in the Ancient Language to serve the Empire, also becoming a Dragon Rider bonded to a red male dragon named Thorn. Later he confronted Eragon and Saphira several times and also killed Oromis and Glaedr under Galbatorix's control, and also captured Nasuada. However, in the final confrontation due to change of his true name he was able to turn against the king and helped Eragon to defeat him. Later Murtagh, after a meeting with Eragon where to two declared themselves brothers, flew away with Thorn to a northern lands. In the following year, he and Thorn have kept to the outer reaches and have seemingly began investigation a suspected danger to Murtagh's half-brother. N[]Naako[]Naako was the leader of one of the Wandering Tribes. He attended the Trial of the Long Knives between Fadawar and Nasuada like Ramusewa, Orrin, Trianna, Jörmundur, Farica, and Elva and later promised to spread word of Nasuada's victory among the other tribes, securing her their allegiances. Nadara[]Nadara was probably a member of the Wandering Tribes . At some point, she met and began a relationship with Ajihad. They had a child, making her the mother of Nasuada. She was also the aunt of Fadawar, the leader of the Inapashunna Tribe and the Wandering Tribes in general. It was apparently Nadara and Nasuada who's presences in his life led to his true name changing and his abandonment of his position in Enduriel's chief estate, though Nadara, it seems, died before Aijhad and Nasuada arrived at the Varden, for they were alone when they came and Nasuada states both her parents were dead when Fadawar attempted to claim his and Nasuada's connection by blood. Nasuada[]Nasuada was the daughter of Ajihad, and the leader of the Varden after his death. She later became the High Queen of Alagaësia. Neil[]Neil was a fur trader in Therinsford described as a good, honest man. In the Eldest chapter "Roran", a trapper recounted a conversation he had had with Neil about strange events taking place in Dras-Leona and Gil'ead as well as reports of a Shade. Nelda[]Nelda was Brom's mother, Holcomb's wife, and Eragon's grandmother. Nelda grew up in Kuasta, a remote city near the Sea, far south of Carvahall. Kuasta was so isolated by the Spine that it became a peculiar place, full of strange customs and superstitions, so Nelda probably was very superstitious, along with her family. When she became of age she married Holcomb. Her husband and his family were illuminators and were probably wealthy. When their son was born, they named him Brom. Nelda presumably was saddened when her son left home for Ilirea (to become a Dragon Rider) and it is unknown if she ever saw him again, though she would never meet her illegitimate grandson, Eragon. Nesbit[]Nesbit was an elderly Human male villager from Carvahall who froze to death in the Spine after following Roran into the Spine. Nolfavrell[]Nolfavrell was the son of Birgit and Quimby, who was killed by the Ra'zac when they invaded. In the Battle of Carvahall, Nolfavrell proved to Roran that he was a capable warrior by killing one of the Imperial soldiers with a dagger. He escaped, along with the rest of Carvahall, to Surda with his family. Unlike Birgit, Nolfavrell seemed to have no quarrel with Roran regarding the death of Quimby. It is unknown if he was even aware of Birgit's potentially murderous intentions towards Roran following her duel. Nolfavrell obviously loved his mother dearly, however, telling Uthar through clenched teeth not to talk about Birgit like that when he displayed a dislike of the idea of have her aboard for fighting, although he was obvious in his open-mouthed admiration and amazement after his mother dealt with the sailor. Nolla (Orval's wife)[]Nolla was the wife of Orval and the two lived in Carvahall with their family until the army of the Broddring Empire attacked their village and they left it. Nolla (widow)[]Nolla was one of the inhabitants of Carvahall whose husband died fighting against the Imperial Army. She left the village and joined the Varden. O[]Odele[]Odele was a friend of Katrina from Carvahall. On a barge journey from Narda to Teirm along with the rest of Carvahall's fleeing residents, she fell in love with a sailor named Frewin. Her parents disapproved but Roran counseled them against criticism. It can be assumed that Odelle and Frewin might have married late on after joining the Varden. Odele's father[]Odele's father was the father of Odele, a friend of Katrina. He left Carvahall with his family and the other villagers when the Imperial Army attacked it. He and his wife were against the wedding between Odele and Frewin, despite Roran's counceling, as the sailor did not have a family, profession or the means to provide for his daughter. Odele's mother[]Odele's mother was the mother of Odele, Katrina's friend. She left Carvahall with her family and the other villagers when the Imperial Army attacked it. She and her husband were against the wedding between Odele and Frewin, as the sailor failed to possess means of providing for Odele. Orrin[]Orrin was king of the rebellious country Surda and a longtime friend of Varden leader, Nasuada. His father was King Larkin. Orval[]Orval was one of the men who lived in Carvahall and fought against the Imperial Army. He left the village and joined the Varden with his family and his wife Nolla. Ostrec[]Ostrec was Horst's father. Ostven[]Ostven was the father of Gedric, a farmer of Carvahall. Othman[]Othman was the author of The Acts of Taradas and Other Mysteries of Occult Phenomena as Recorded Throughout the Ages of Men, Dwarves, and the Most Ancient Elves, a work which, though Arya stated was 'filled with mistakes', recorded information on the construction work of Erst Graybeard and King Radgar passed down through the memoirs of Lord Yardley which proved vital in the Siege of Dras-Leona. Othmund[]Othmund was a character never actually seen in The Inheritance Cycle, but was mentioned in two chapters. In "Message in a Mirror," Nasuada explains to Saphira that Othmund slaughtered three Urgals in their sleep. He was not caught, but bragged about the deed that morning. Saphira asked if the Urgals killed the man's family, but she explains that he slaughtered them for no reason other than that he racistly hates Urgals. She now has to execute him, but it will not make her popular with her human constituents and the Urgals still not be satisfied. Saphira responds with words of wisdom. Nasuada later mentions Othmund in "The Whipping Post," explaining to Roran that he was executed. P[]'Painted Face'[]'Painted Face' was the fan name given to one of the Empire's agents, who dueled Eragon in the Battle under Farthen Dûr, in the Eragon video game. He wore red and white paint on his bald head and was a skilled swordsman. However, it is to be noted that this character did not have any actual role in the Inheritance cycle's story-line for humans were not present at the battle of Farthen Dûr. Therefore, he is not to be confused as to have actually been a person. Palancar[]King Palancar was a human king during the early years of human settlement in Alagaësia. Palancar Valley in northern Alagaësia was named after him. Possibly because of the predations of the Ra'zac and Lethrblaka in the native country of humans, Palancar led what refugees he could to Alagaësia. His fleet stopped at least twice en route: once in a sheltered cove surrounded by mountains, where they established a settlement that would become the town of Kuasta and again at Teirm, where he came into contact with both the elves and the Dragon Riders, who allowed Palancar to settle his people in lands they didn't occupy. Once they settled in an unoccupied valley, Palancar tried to expand his territory by attacking the elves (quite why he did so, especially after having seen the might of the elvish military in Teirm is unknown: Heslant the Monk suggests in Domia abr Wyrda that Palancar may have been in the early stages of dementia, although another possibility is that Palancar was attempting to move his nation further inland to avoid the threat of pursuing Ra'zac and Lethrblaka). However, three times they attacked and three times they were defeated. Palancar's aristocrats pleaded their king to negotiate but he refused, so they met with the elves and negotiated a peace treaty in secret. With the help of the Dragon Riders, they were able to depose of Palancar but not without angering the human king. The leader of the Dragon Riders then allowed humans to enter the Rider's order to ease the tensions between the elves, Riders and the humans. Palancar was eventually murdered by a son, possibly Thanebrand the Ring Giver (Palancar's succesor and first King of the Broddring Kingdom to rule in Ilirea), who didn't wait for him to die of natural causes. The bloodline became riddled with corruption but Palancar's family and their still-loyal followers never left the valley and the former king's bloodline continues in several of the valley's family, Eragon's amongst them. Parr[]Parr was a villager from Carvahall. He fought in the Battle of Carvahall and was one of the men murdered by the Ra'zac. He was tending to a wagon with Roran when the Ra'zac returned. The Ra'zac threw an explosive that destroyed the wagon and killed Parr. Parr's family, alongside Ivor, Svart and the clans of Ethlbert and Knute, stubbornly chose to remain in Carvahall, despite the exodus led by Roran, and were presumably slaughtered when the forces of the Imperial Army razed Carvahall to the ground, likely killed the remnants of the villagers and put the settlement to torch, presumably ending any of Parr's direct bloodline that refused to flee. Parr's Family[]Parr's family was the family of Parr, a villager of Carvahall who died in the Battle of Carvahall. They decided to stay in Carvahall along with Knute's and Ethlbert's families, when Roran, Horst, Birgit, and a lot of other villagers left the place. Q[]Quimby[]Quimby was a brewer in Carvahall. He was Birgit's husband and Nolfavrell's father. When some Imperial soldiers started to argue over should be served first while in Morn's Tavern, he tried to break it up and was hit by a pitcher from behind, dying instantly. His body was then captured and eaten by the Ra'zac. Quoth Merrinsson[]Quoth Merrinsson held a leading position in the Vardens' field kitchen and supply. Eragon and Saphira met him near the cook tents before the Battle of The Burning Plains, looking for a meal during the Brisingr chapter "Footprints of Shadow". R[]Radgar[]King Radgar was the human king of the Broddring Kingdom around five centuries before the Rider War. Little is known about him other than that he constructed the city of Dras-Leona with the aid of the dwarf Erst Graybeard, a fact recorded in the memoirs of Lord Yardley. Ramusewa[]Ramusewa was one of the Wandering Tribes' leaders. He attended the Trial of the Long Knives between Fadawar and Nasuada like Naako, Orrin, Trianna, Jörmundur, Farica, and Elva. Reldan[]Reldan was a courier entrusted with delivering Jeod's history of the Rider War to Ertharis. Ridley[]Ridley was a villager of Carvahall. He and Thane argued with Albriech after Thane accused Albriech of stealing his scythe. Roran noticed that a fight had broken out between Thane and Albriech and intervened to stop it. He insisted that arbitrators would resolve the issue after the conflict with the Ra'zac and the Imperial Army was resolved, but Ridley was left unsatisfied with the decision. Risthart[]Risthart was the lord of Teirm before, during and after the Rider War. He personally swore fealty to King Galbatorix in the Ancient Language and attacked the ships of merchants who aided the Varden, such as Jeod. After Galbatorix fell, he demanded that Teirm become a separate city-state, under his leadership, but he had to swear fealty to Nasuada as High Queen. Rolf[]Rolf was the butler of Jeod. He showed Roran and the villagers of Carvahall into Jeod's study. He was described as having "teeth like varnished pearls". Roran[]Roran Garrowsson, nicknamed Roran Stronghammer, is the cousin of both Eragon and Murtagh, as well as the son of Garrow. He is about two years older than Eragon, but they were so close that they considered each other brothers. After the Ra'zac appeared in Carvahall he tried to defend of the village, but failed due to betrayal of Sloan. After Ra'zac captured his girlfriend Katrina and Sloan, he leaded an escape of the villagers to the Varden. He rescued Katrina with help of Eragon and Saphira and soon married her. He started to serve Nasuada and became a powerful warrior, who fought heroically in many operations. After the war Nasuada gave him the earldom of Palancar Valley. He returned to Carvahall with his wife and daughter to rebuild the village and build his own castle after a heartfelt farewell with his cousin. S[]Sabrae[]Sabrae was a female human member of the Council of Elders. She was described by Eragon to be a woman with close-set eyes and elaborately painted cheeks. She wore perfume that was thick and oily, and reminded Eragon of a rotting flower. Despite wishing to control Nasuada, Sabrae was clearly loyal to the Varden and hated the Twins for their lack of allegiance towards the rebels. Sand[]Sand was a leader of Captain Edric's charge on the Broddring Empire's forces north of Surda. He was killed during the crazy charge along with most of his forces. He was (most likely) shot by an archer or a crossbow bolt. Sardson[]Sardson was a human soldier sent as part of a force under the Ra'zac's command to capture Carvahall. At some point during the siege of Carvahall, Sardson was presumably eaten by the Ra'zac. Sefton[]Sefton was a swordsman in the Varden. He was injured in the Battle of The Burning Plains and died soon afterward, his death felt by Elva. Selena[]Selena, also called the Black Hand, was a female human, wife, spy and assistant of Morzan, and also the sister of Garrow and the mother of the Dragon Riders Murtagh and Eragon. She originally lived in Carvahall before she fell in love with Morzan and moved to his catle, becoming his main spy. However, after her husband showed cruelty to their son Murtagh, she secretly fell in love with Brom and started to support Varden. After giving birth to Eragon Bromsson in Carvahall during her mission, she returned without him, wishing to protect him from his step-father and the Empire, only to die soon after. Signa[]Signa was the wife of Gull who appeared in a deleted scene taken from Intersecting Sagas. Signa was described as starved when Eragon met her. She was dying of a tumour in her stomach and her desperate husband Gull had begged Eragon to heal her. Although Eragon removed the growth, he warned Signa that she may not be able to conceive. Knowing that Eragon's intentions were noble and that she was safe, she thanked him profusely and commented on the burdens that Eragon had to carry. Sloan[]Sloan Aldensson was the human male town butcher in Eragon's home village of Carvahall. He was the husband of the late Ismira and the father of Katrina. Southwell[]Southwell was a villager from Carvahall mentioned in the Eldest chapter "Narda". He is said to have died while crossing a glacier stream in the Spine. Svart[]Svart was the uncle of Ivor, a farmer from Carvahall. Svart had a long white beard and, at nearly sixty, was the oldest man in Carvahall. During the departure of the residents of Carvahall to the Varden in Surda, Svart refused to go, along with Ivor, who had to look after him and the farm. Svern[]Svern was a member of the Varden who Eragon overheard talking round a watchfire. He was concerned about whether the Elves would turn on their allies after the end of the Rider War and thought that the Dragon Riders would restore order to the world. He was described as ugly and liked to bore his comrades with the story of how Eragon saved his life during the Siege of Feinster. T[]Tara[]Tara was Morn's wife. They owned the Seven Sheaves, which was the tavern in Carvahall. Tarrant[]Lord Tarrant was the aristocrat who was in command of Ceunon. He attempted to fend the elves off and even barricaded himself in his tower when the elves began to siege, but he eventually succumbed to the elves. Tathal[]Tathal was a human groom who gets in fight with Dahwar. His plot to commit murder was overheard by Eragon using telepathy and he was stopped before he could carry it out. Taurin[]Taurin was an Imperial soldier stationed in the gatehouse at Aroughs. He was killed during Roran's attack on the city. Tenga[]Tenga, son of Ingvar, is an (apparently) human spellcaster and a reclusive hermit living in Edur Ithindra which is an ancient, abandoned elven outpost. For a while, he mentored Angela the herbalist, who knew that he always pondered a vast question, constantly moving in to another after answering the previous. Thane[]Thane lived in Carvahall. He had a wife named Calitha and five children. In Eldest, Thane and Ridley argued that Albriech had stolen Thane's scythe, claiming that he saw Albriech, since no one in the rest of Carvahall looks like him, resulting in a fight. Roran broke up the fight and insisted that the issue would be referred to arbitrators when the conflict with the Ra'zac and the Imperial Army was resolved. Thanebrand the Ring Giver[]Thanebrand the Ring Giver was the successor of King Palancar and the founder of the House of Langfeld. His line continued following the Dragon War with Lady Marelda of Surda and her heirs Larkin and Orrin. Tharos the Quick[]Tharos the Quick was the Captain of the Guard at Aroughs during the Rider War. He was the son of Lord Halstead, the last to remain in the city with him. He was the brother of Galiana. Tharos and a small number of his horsemen met Roran on the roads around Aroughs and briefly talked with him. Roran's scheme caused him hesitate out of caution so he did not attack Roran. Later, after the Siege of Aroughs he, like Hamlin in Gil'ead, led a small rebellion against Nasuada's rule which took several months to put down. His motivation behind his rebellion was to avenge the death of his sister while Hamlin's was to avenge his loss of status. Thedric[]King Thedric was the human king of the Broddring Kingdom at the time of the War of Iron. Little is known of his reign. He wanted to prevent the War of Iron and met with the dwarf Ivaldn in Furnost to achieve this, but the negotiations failed. He may have survived to see the Riders resolve the crisis. Torkenbrand[]Torkenbrand was a slaver who hunted in the Beor Mountains and Hadarac Desert. He would capture travelers and sell them in the large cities of the Broddring Empire. When he tried to arrest Eragon and Murtagh in the Hadarac Desert, his men were frightened away by Saphira. In the hurry to escape, he was struck in the temple by a javelin. Murtagh then decapitated him to "eliminate the threat". Tornac[]Tornac was a servant and skilled swordsman who taught Murtagh the art of swordplay and dueling. He was killed attempting to escape with Murtagh from Urû'baen, brought down by a sword to the back. In honor of his mentor, Murtagh gave the name 'Tornac' to his gray warhorse. Torson[]Torson was one of Clovis' men on the three barges: The Red Boar, Edeline and Merrybell. He was Clovis' first helmsman. Tosk[]Tosk was the first prophet of the religion of Helgrind. He set down the rules for its adherents in the Book of Tosk. He had set up a language and runic alphabet to write the Book of Tosk. He, like other worshippers, revered the Ra'zac and Lethrblaka as their deities, as well as sacrificed their own blood and limbs to "please" their deities. Trevor[]Trevor was a resident of Daret encountered by Eragon and Brom, and an ex-soldier of the Imperial army. Because of his experience in Galbatorix's army the villagers selected Trevor to lead their defenses. By the time Eragon and Brom arrived, they had already repulsed several individual Urgals. Trevor was discouraged by the news of Yazuac's destruction, and asked Brom to spread the word of their plight when they reached Teirm. It is unknown if Brom remembered his request, or if Trevor and the people of Daret survived the Urgal raids. Trianna[]Trianna was a human sorceress who lived during the Rider War. She became the leader of the Du Vrangr Gata after The Twins' defection to Galbatorix, then eventually became Eragon's deputy after he took command of the Varden's spellcasters. The Twins[]The Twins were twin brothers that had no names and that served as head of the Du Vrangr Gata for the Varden. They were the strongest Magic users that the Varden had, and were in charge of examining peoples' minds for deception when they came to the Varden. The Twins were spies for Galbatorix. They were killed in battle by Roran Stronghammer. Twins Quimbysson[]The Twins Quimbysson were two of Nolfavrell's little brothers so they were also sons of Birgit and Quimby. Their father was killed by an Imperial soldier and they left Carvahall with their mother and their elder brother. U[]Ulhart[]Ulhart was a member of the Varden and Martland Redbeard's right-hand man while he was a captain. He was tasked with counting the supplies that he and the other members of the Varden, under Martland, had stolen from the Empire in the raids across the border. Ulric[]Ulric was a dock worker in Narda. When Roran enquired about obtaining transport to Teirm, Ulric recommended Clovis. Horst gave him a Copper for his help. Umérth[]Umérth was a member of the Council of Elders. He was a tall human male. The other four members were Jörmundur, Falberd, Sabrae, and Elessari. He, like the rest, seemed greedy and corrupt, trying (and failing) to control Nasuada, yet was still loyal to the Varden against Galbatorix. Umérth sounds similar to umarth, the Elvish word for fate in J.R.R Tolkien's legendarium. Undset[]Undset was the uncle of Jörmundur. He presumably died prior to the Trial of the Long Knives, since Jörmundur referred to him in the past tense Unidentified Female Imperial Magician[]This unidentified individual was a female spellcaster of the Imperial Army who participated in the creation of the Shade Varaug during the Siege of Feinster. Unidentified Female Priest of Helgrind 1[]This individual was a member of the Priests of Helgrind. After recovering from the shock of seeing Eragon, Arya, Angela and Solembum, the former two having been imprisoned by the priests in the catacombs below Dras-Leona to be feed to a newly hatched Ra'zac, the High Priest of Helgrind ordered his subordinates at attack the four, shouting that the infidels must be punished for their crimes against the Old Ones, to which the congregation of priests answered with howls and stamps of their feet, and Eragon felt their minds clawing at his, like a pack of wolves tearing at a weakened victim, forcing him to retreat into his mind before joining in mental forces with Arya. After witnessing the deaths of five of their comrades, all but this woman and five others scattered across the cathedral. This woman and her five remaining comrades charged Eragon, brandishing curved knives with what hands they still possessed. Eragon cut at the first priest before she could strike at him. To his annoyance, the woman was protected by a ward that stopped Tinkledeath half a foot from her neck, causing the sword to turn in his hand and a shock to run up his arm. With his left hand, Eragon swung at the woman. For whatever reason, the spell did not stop his fist, and he felt the bones in her chest give way as he knocked her sprawling into the people behind her. It is unknown what became of her, although, if she survived the Rider War, she, like the rest of her remaining comrades went into hiding. Unidentified Female Varden Magician 1[]This woman was a Magician who served as one of Du Vrangr Gata's spellcasters. After Eragon announced his intentions of taking command of the Varden's spellcasters for the coming battle, he felt several magicians probe his consciousness in an attempt to divine his true intentions. Instead of guarding himself—which would blind him from incoming attacks—Eragon retaliated by jabbing at the minds of the would-be-invaders hard enough that they retreated behind their own mental barriers. As he did, Eragon had the satisfaction of seeing two men and a women flinch and avert their gaze. Unidentified Female Varden Magician 2[]This woman was a spellcaster who served as one of Du Vrangr Gata's spellcasters. As Eragon and Saphira flew above and behind the leading lines of the Varden as it clashed with the Imperial Army above The Burning Plains, Du Vrangr Gata alerted him to their discovery of the first enemy spellweaver. The instant he was alerted, Eragon reached out with his mind to the women who had made the discovery, and from there to the foe she grappled with, melding his power with the strength of the women and demolishing the man's resistance, took control of his' consciousness, determined which troops the man was protecting and slew the man with one of the Twelve Words of Death. Without pause, Eragon and the women located the minds of each of the now-unprotected soldiers and killed them as well. Unidentified Imperial Commander[]This unidentified individual was a commander in the Imperial Army. During Eragon's travel to the Varden from Eastcroft, Eragon and Arya came across a patrol of Galbatorix's soldiers. This soldier halted his company and began questioning Eragon about what they were doing in those parts. He ordered one of his men, Langward, to search their belongings, when he found Eragon's armor. This soldier then ordered for them to be tied up, but Eragon had other plans. He used magic and lifted a pebble up, thrusting it at the soldier and puncturing the side of his helmet. Unidentified Imperial Magician 1[]This magician was a spellcaster of an unknown gender who sailed aboard the lead ship of the three slopes sent after The Dragons Wing after it was burgled by the Villagers of Carvahall, Jeod, and the various other traders helping the Varden and their sailors. He/She was also responsible for sending an arrow of enchanted fire towards the burgled ship. They were killed after the slope they were sailing on was caught in the currents of the Boar's Eye Whirlpool. Unidentified Imperial Magician 2[]This unidentified individual was a magician who several Galbatorix among the Imperial Army. During the Battle of the Burning Plains, Eragon, along with the Du Vrangr Gata, searched for enemy Magicians. When a member of the Du Vrangr Gata found the first enemy spellcaster, Eragon was alerted and immediately reached out to the woman who made the discovery and from there to the foe she grappled with. Using all of his power, Eragon demolished the Magician's resistance, took control of his mind, determined which troops the man was guarding and slew the man with one of the Twelve Words of Death. Eragon then located the minds of each of the now unprotected soldiers and killed them. Unidentified Imperial Magician 3[]This unidentified individual was a male spellcaster of the Imperial Army who fought in the Battle of The Burning Plains. During the Battle, Eragon with the help of the Du Vrangr Gata hunted down all of Galbatorix's pet Magicians. But the Magicians were wily and cunning and did not directly attack him. Their resistance puzzled Eragon until he tore from the mind of one spellcaster, moments before he committed suicide, the thought "… ordered not to kill you or the dragon … not to kill you or the dragon." Unidentified Imperial Magician 4[]During the Varden's First Raid of the Imperial Army's Supply Trains, this individual, who was accompanying the supply train, confronted the Varden's own spellcaster, Carn and engaged him in a mental duel on the lead wagon. Roran Stronghammer, who was also part of the raid, witnessed part of their duel as Carn and his opponent, who was described by Roran as "a tall man in robes", their bodies rigid except for occasional twitches, the only sign of their invisible duel. Even as Roran watched, Carn's opponent pitched forward and lay motionless on the ground. Unidentified Imperial Magician 5[]This unidentified individual was a male spellcaster who served Galbatorix as part of the fraction of his army who participated protecting the Imperial City of Feinster against the Varden. Unidentified Imperial Magician 6[]This unidentified individual was a male spellweaver who served Galbatorix as part of the small force of his army stationed in Feinster and who participated protecting the Imperial City against the Varden during their night-time siege. He was killed when his skull was cracked open by a blow delivered by Saphira that sent him crashing into the nearby stairs. Unidentified Imperial Magician 7[]This man was an unnamed spellweaver who served as a member of the Imperial Army's Aroughs faction, where he apparently served Lord Halstead as his own sorcerer, despite the fact that he seemed fairly incompetent, during the Varden's Siege on the city, where he was often seen by the Varden atop the walls, muttering into his beard and trying to strike them down with his spells, although he didn't appear have much luck, save for two of the men Captain Brigman had on a battering ram, whom he managed to set on fire. He later accompanied his master's son, Tharos the Swift on his patrol, where they met Roran Stronghammer, the cousin of Eragon Shadeslayer and new commander of the Varden forces stationed outside the city walls. During this confrontation, he was fooled by the Varden's magician, Carn, who's magic was causing the air to shimmer and had caused the magician to believe there was some sort of illusion cloaking the area and expend all his energy trying to break the illusion he thought Carn had created—to pierce the veil of shimmering air so he could see what lay behind—but there was nothing to break, nothing to pierce, so he expended so much of his strength in vain that when the patrol left he looked as if he was about to faint. This man later confronted Carn after the rebels broke into Aroughs, spreading his arms above his head, a nimbus of black lighting crackling around each of his hands. Walking in exact mirroring of Carn's steps until they were twenty feet apart, whereupon they both stopped and appeared to talk to each other before both of the spellcasters went rigid, as if someone had jabbed them with poniards as an invisible battle between minds commenced. Despite the Varden's attempt to shot him, the man remained focused on his rival. As Roran and his forces made their way up the right-hand edge of the square and when't almost level with the fountain, Roran saw the enemy magician look toward him. It was the merest flicker of a glance, sidelong and fleeting, but the distraction, whether intended or not, seemed to have an immediate effect on his duel with Carn. As the hook-nosed man returned his gaze to Carn, the snarl upon his face deepened into a painful rictus, and veins began to bulge on his knotted brow and on his corded neck, and his whole head flushed a dark, angry red, as if it were so swollen with blood that it might burst asunder. Suddenly, the man can a despairing cry before shouting something in the ancient language that Roran could not understand. A fraction of a second later, Carn shouted something as well and, for a moment, their two voices overlapped with such a dire mixture of terror, desolation, hate, and fury that it became clear that the duel had somehow gone horribly wrong. Using an unknown spell, the magician enveloped Carn in a white, dome-like shell flashed outward from where he had been standing and expanded across the square in less time, killing the Varden sorcerer. However, before the spell could take complete effect, Carn cast his own spell, which drew every ounce of liquid from him, which combined with the explosion robbed the wizard of not only his outer clothes but also his life, leaving him standing as his flesh, then bones crumbled to dust. Unidentified Imperial Magician 8[]This unidentified individual was one of the four Magicians of the Empire that took part in the Abduction of Nasuada, fighting against the elven spellcasters Blödhgarm, Uthinarë and Yaela during the battle and was the last of the four to die, remaining locked in mental combat with the three elves near Nasuada's pavilion until he was found by Eragon and Arya after Thorn and Murtagh fled with a captured Nasuada fled. The remaining magician was kneeling on the ground, his brow pressed against his knees and his arms wrapped around the nape of his neck. Instead of adding his thoughts to the invisible fray, Eragon strode over to the magician, tapped him on the shoulder, and shouted, “Ha!”. The magician quivered, startled, and the distraction allowed the elves to slip past his defenses. This Eragon knew because the man convulsed and then rolled over, the whites of his eyes showing, and a yellowish foam bubbled out of his mouth. Soon afterward, he ceased breathing. Unidentified Imperial Magician 9[]This unnamed individual participated the Battle of Urû'baen, where he defended the black citadel of Urû'baen. As Eragon and his companions made their way deeper into the lair of Galbatorix, they were temporarily halted by twenty black-robed enemy human spellweavers, man and women alike, filed out of a sideway passageway and formed a like in front of the group, blocking the way and beginning to chant in the ancient language, their wards protecting them from even Saphira's fire, which passed harmlessly around them. Despite his great power and the 135 Eldunarí with him, Eragon only defended himself and did not attack in turn for the man and his nineteen companion's chanting concerned him, for they were willing to cast spells before they had seized control of his mind—as well as those of his companions—then they no longer cared if they lived or died, only that they stopped the intruders. During the confrontation, this man faced of against the witch-child, Elva, who was saying something about the man's daughter. Before Elva could stop the man completely though, Eragon purposely set of one of the halls traps, which activated two horizontal sheet of metal—thirty feet long and four inches thick—to shoot out of each wall with a terrible screech. The plates of metal caught the magicians between them and cut them in two, like a pair of giant tin snips, then just as quickly retreated back into their hidden slots, causing Elva to faint. Unidentified Imperial Magician 10[]This individual was an Imperial Spellcaster based in Belatona who died during the Varden's attack on his city after Blödhgarm forced his to commit suicide via magical means. Unidentified Imperial Soldier 1[]This unidentified individual was a soldier of Galbatorix's Army. During the Battle of the Burning Plains this soldier was tending to one of the catapults when Eragon tried to gain dominance over his mind and direct his actions from afar. He guided the man up to the weapon, which was being loaded, then had him use his sword to hack at the skein of twisted rope that powered the machine. Though the rope was too thick to sever before the soldier was dragged away by his comrades, the damage was already done. The partially wounded skein broke and the arm of the catapult flew backward, injuring several men. Unidentified Imperial Soldier 2[]This soldier was a part of a patrol of Galbatorix's soldiers roaming the land. Eragon was retruning to the Varden after facing the Ra'zac when he passed through the same area. To avoid detection Eragon hid behind a group of drooping branches, but to no avail, this soldier spotted him and halted the soldiers. When he went to check out the disturbance, Eragon muttered a spell making him invisible. When the soldier removed the branches, to his confusion, he found nothing there. He jabbed his spear into the thicket, missing Eragon's face by less than an inch, then returned the branches to their original spot and left, arguing with Derwood. Unidentified Imperial Soldier 3[]This soldier was a member of a patrol of Galbatorix's soldiers roaming the land in search for a fugitive. Eragon was returning to the Varden after facing the Ra'zac when he passed through the same area as the patrol. To avoid detection Eragon hid behind a group of drooping branches, but was still spotted by a soldier. After Eragon muttered a spell to turn himself invisible, the soldiers found nothing and left. The soldier then complained about not having any sleep for two days. Unidentified Male Priest of Helgrind 1[]This individual was a member of the Priests of Helgrind. After recovering from the shock of seeing Eragon, Arya, Angela and Solembum, the former two having been imprisoned by the priests in the catacombs below Dras-Leona, the High Priest of Helgrind ordered his subordinates at attack the four, shouting that the infidels must be punished for their crimes against the Old Ones, to which the congregation of priests answered with howls and stamps of their feet, Eragon feeling their minds clawing at his, like a pack of wolves tearing at a weakened deer, forcing him to retreat into his mind before joining in mental forces with Arya. Together they stabbed with their minds at one of the priests. The man struggled to evade their grasp, like a fish wriggling through their fingers, but they tightened their grip and refused to let him escape. He was reciting a stilted, oddly worded phrase in an attempt to keep them out of his consciousness; Eragon assumed it was a scrap of scripture from the Book of Tosk. The priest lacked discipline, however, and his concentration soon wavered as he thought, how their enemies were to close to the High Priest, only to realize that his own mental safety was in question. Eragon and Arya seized upon the priest's weakness and quickly subjugated the man's thoughts to their will. Once they were certain he could not retaliate against them with mind or body, Arya cast a spell that, from examining the priest's memories, she knew could slip past his wards. In the third row of pews, a man screamed and burst into flame, green fire pouring from his ears, mouth, and eyes, crackling like the sound of branches snapping in a storm. The flames ignited the clothes of several priests close to him, and the burning men and women began to thrash and run about wildly, further disrupting the attacks against Eragon. Unidentified Male Priest of Helgrind 2[]This individual was a member of the Priests of Helgrind. After witnessing the deaths of five of their comrades, most of the Helgrind priesr scattered across the cathedral, leaving only the man and five others remaining. Despite witnessing how easily the four had disposed of their companions, the five followers of Helgrind charged at Eragon, brandishing curved knives with what hands they still possessed. After extracting themselves from one of their comrades thrown into her companions by Eragon, the priests resumed their charge. Stepping forward, Eragon blocked a clumsy slash from the foremost priest; then—with a shout of “Ha!” — he drove his fist into the man's gut and sent him flying into a pew, which the priest struck with a nasty crack, killing him. Unidentified Male Priest of Helgrind 3[]This individual was a member of the Priests of Helgrind. Though it is unknown exactly how this man met his demise, it is mentioned that he killed this priest in a similar man to another one of the Priest's comrades, who Eragon had thrown into a pew, likely meaning he was thrown into part of the cathedral with such force that he was killed. Unidentified Male Varden Magician 1[]This man was a member of Du Vrangr Gata and a magician of the Varden who joined sometime before the Battle of the Burning Plain. When Eragon outlined his plans for the Varden Magician's to aid in seeking out the Imperial Army's own Magicians and, joining forces with Eragon, crush them and the soldiers they protected to Du Vrangr Gata, this man was the first to respond, observing that he believed it to be a good plan, only to be silenced by Trianna's glare. Unidentified Male Varden Magician 2[]This unidentified individual is a spellcaster who served as part of the rebel Varden movement's group of spellweavers, Du Vrangr Gata. Unidentified Male Varden Magician 3[]This unidentified individual was a member of Du Vrangr Gata who served during Nasuada's war against King Galbatorix. As he did, Eragon had the satisfaction of seeing two men and a woman flinch and avert their gaze. Unidentified Varden Agent (l)[]This unidentified individual was a member of the Varden situated in Teirm. Having apparently joined the rebel organisation before 7984–7985, he/she would eventually make contact with a young scholar named Jeod who desired to join the Varden and claimed to have discovered evidence of hitherto-secret elf-made into Urû'baen and proceeded to relay Jeod's information to Brom. Unidentified Varden Earl[]This unidentified individual was an Earl of a piece of land (presumably somewhere in Surda) who supported the Varden. He was among the hundreds of Varden members who met Eragon after he returned from Helgrind and was among the few Varden members who Eragon observed was truly unaffected by the presence of the two Urgal Nighthawks, claiming to have seen Morzan and his dragon lay waste to an entire town when he was just a boy. If this is true, that it would explain why he was unaffected by the Urgals, having seen greater horrors in his time. This therefore may mean he was one of the oldest Varden members, as he was apparently alive before Morzan and his dragon's death at Brom's hands in Gil'ead and if he was a full member of the Varden, he may have also been among the members who joined the Varden while it under the command of either Brom himself or one of the earliest of his successors. Uthar[]Uthar was the main sailor of Jeod's merchant fleet and an agent of the Varden. He believed having a woman aboard a ship was nothing but bad luck. Uthar helped Jeod, Roran and the villagers of Carvahall steal the Dragon Wing. When they were pursued by sloops from the Broddring Empire, he bravely set sail through the Boar's Eye in order to lose them. V[]Vacher[]Vacher was a natural philosopher who contested Ládin's theory of a vacuum and presumably lived years before Eragon's time. Years later, King Orrin would invalidate his theories by successfully creating a vacuum, proving Ládin correct. W[]Ware[]Ware was the father of Gull, a Varden archer seen in Intersecting Sagas, as well as the father-in-law of Signa. It is unclear is he was associated with the Varden like his son and his son's wife were. Wayland[]Wayland was living in Carvahall. He was the stepfather to Calitha. He did not want to go on the ship Edeline. Because of this, he caused a great deal of trouble for Roran and the other Carvahall villages until he was given a piece of meat to gum. Weldon[]Weldon was chosen by Brom to succeed him as the leader of a rebel group known as the Varden. This gave Brom time to pursue his passion of hunting down Morzan. Weldon was the leader of the Varden for over twenty years before he was succeeded by Deynor. He led the Varden when Arya began representing her people as ambassador, and even traveled with her for a time. Arya gave Eragon a brief history of the leadership of the Varden. Welmar[]Welmar was a captain in the Varden under Martland Redbeard. Martland Redbeard ordered the spellcaster, Carn, to heal Welmar and Linden after a conflict with the Laughing Dead during a raid on an Imperial Army supply convoy. Wyglif[]Wyglif was a villager from Carvahall. He died in the Battle of Carvahall. Y[]Yardley[]Lord Yardley was the chief advisor to King Radgar. He recorded in his memoirs that a sewer system had been built beneath Dras-Leona by Erst Graybeard, a piece of information that proved useful to the Varden five hundred years later, when it was rediscovered in the works of Othman shortly before the Siege of Dras-Leona. |

A[]Ahno the Trickster[]Ahno the Trickster was an Urgal mentioned only in a deleted scene included in the Deluxe Edition of Brisingr. He pursued a pack of deer to try to slake his hunger, but ended up trading his own form for that of a deer. He eventually grew enamored with this life, but his father, Svarvok, was not pleased and sent a pack of wolves to pursue him until he grew tired. He then traded his form for that of a wolf instead. D[]Dazhgra[]Dazhgra is the Urgals' spellcaster on a supply train raid led by Roran Stronghammer. However, he was not a member of Du Vrangr Gata, being an member of one of the Varden's allies rather than a direct member of the rebel movement. He was a powerful Bolvek shaman and could control the elements to the extent that his powers exceeded many magicians of the Varden, something which is not surprising considering how inexperienced the Varden's magicians were. E[]Eragon's Fourth Kull Bodyguard[]Eragon's Fourth Kull Bodyguard was a Kull who had his mind searched by Eragon for evidence of treachery against the Varden alongside Garzhvog, Otvek, and Khagra. He died in the Battle of the Burning Plains. G[]Garzhvog[]Nar Garzhvog was an Urgal warchief, leading a tribe of Kull. Initially, Garzhvog, like most of his kind, fought on the side of Galbatorix as part of the Urgal force under the control of Durza, but in the aftermath of the Battle Under Farthen Dûr, Garzhvog's mate was sent to demands answers from Galbatorix, but never returned. The now presumably-widowed Garzhvog was thus elected his kind's representative and it was under his leadership that the Urgals allied themselves with the Varden, in order to defeat Galbatorix and, later on were allowed to become part of the spell permitting Urgals and Dwarves to become Riders. Gashz[]Gashz was an Urgal commander at Ithrö Zhâda who was assigned to the position of one the leaders of Galbatorix's Urgal Army during the Battle under Farthen Dûr. He was mentioned in a partially translated letter that Ajihad read to Eragon. H[]Hegrz[]Hegraz was an Urgal of legend who was the son of Maghara. The goddess Rahna, took him as payment for his mother's debts. Rahna raised him, and he became one of the mightiest warriors in all the land. It was Rahna who named him Hegraz. His original name, if any, was unknown. I[]Ilgra Nrechslayer[]Ilgra (initially named Lamefoot after injuring her leg in a fall, then Nrechslayer for her heroics) was a Kull warrior and later shaman of Clan Skgaro, known for being the main protagonist of the Urgal legend "The Worm of Kulkaras." The tale details of how she swore vengeance on the dragon Vêrmund the Grim after he killed her father during a raid on her clan's village. She chose a spear which she named "Gorgoth", or "Revenge" in the Urgal language and then had her father's horn made into an instrument. She later attempted to use the spear to slay Vêrmund while he slept, but the plan was foiled by the dragon's hard scales and eyelids and Gorgoth was destroyed. Ilgra's leg was then wounded as she was flung down the mountain Kulkaras, earning her the nickname "Lamefoot." After the attempt, she recovered the staff of a shaman named Ulkrö who had earlier tried to kill the dragon himself. She named the staff "Gorgoth" and decided to become a shaman herself. Another shaman, named Qarzhad Stone-Fist, came to her village shortly thereafter, and after defeating him in a game of Maghra, was trained to properly use the staff and magic. Ilgra eventually donned the name 'Nrechslayer' instead after she assisted Vêrmund in slaying a pair of Nrech (lethrblaka) that attacked her tribe. It is unknown if Ilgra (and the rest of the characters in the tale) actually existed, or if she was merely a fabrication of the tale, as the legend likely predates the Urgals' arrival in Alagaësia. K[]Khagra[]Khagra was a Kull who had his mind searched by Eragon for evidence of treachery against the Varden alongside Garzhvog, Otvek, and one other. He and Garzhvog survived the Battle of the Burning Plains. Khagra went on the join the Nighthawks, Nasuada's personal bodyguards. Kulkarvek[]Kulkarvek was the only Urgal king. After his death, his body lay in state in the Barrows of Anghelm. Of the warnings that the Umaroth gave Murtagh and Thorn for their travels in the north, this was the first. The quote from Umaroth is as follows: "We know much of the difficulties you have faced, Thorn and Murtagh, for we have watched you from afar, even as we have watched Eragon and Saphira. There are many things we would teach you once you are ready, but until then, we will tell you this: in your wanderings, avoid the barrows of Anghelm, where the one and only Urgal king, Kulkarvek, lies in state... Do this and, unless you are greatly unfortunate, you shall not encounter danger beyond your ability to master." This could mean that, with all the immense abilities Murtagh and Thorn had gained from Galbatorix's meddling in their minds and bodies, as well as even their knowledge of the Name of Names, they would still not be capable of killing Kulkarvek if the Urgal King were to wake up from his "slumber". Kulkarvek can therefore be presumed to be incredibly powerful, perhaps on par with the late Galbatorix himself (when the latter had been enhanced by the Name and numerous Eldunarya), and since the Kull are the strongest group within Urgal society, it is presumed by most fans that Kulkarvek is a Kull. However, without further evidence, speculation on the matter proves fruitless. M[]Maghara[]Maghara was an Urgal of legend who had hair past her waist, horns that shown like polished stone, and a laugh that could charm birds out of trees, but she was ugly. She wanted to marry an Urgal that had defeated twenty-seven other Urgals in wrestling matches while killing four. He would not even pay attention to her due to her ugliness. So she went to an Urgal goddess named Rahna and begged for beauty so she could have the Urgal she wanted as her brood-mate. The goddess asked what she would pay in return and Maghara told her she would give anything. After seven years had past, Rahna came for her payment and demanded her eldest son, Hegraz. Maghara fought back and she lost both her beauty and her son. O[]Otvek[]Otvek was an Urgal whom Eragon searched his memories for evidence of treachery against the Varden. Four of the Kull were searched by Eragon; Garzhvog, Khagra, Otvek and one other. During the Battle of the Burning Plains, two of these Kull fell in battle. Since Garzhvog and Khagra are both still alive, it is assumed that Otvek and the other were the ones to fall. Q[]Qarzhad Stone-Fist[]Qarzhad Stone-Fist was a wandering Shaman and would later become Ilgra's mentor. He had a mate but she was killed by a mountain bear, and he now wanders, at first hoping to find it and get revenge, but now because he knows there are others in need of a shaman's wisdom. S[]Skgahgrezh[]Skgahgrezh was the brother of Garzhvog. Though he was not a Kull, he was a very accomplished warrior. Garzhvog described him as strong with wide shoulders and long horns. He trusted him to lead the Bolvek tribe while he was accompanying Eragon to meet the dwarves in Brisingr. T[]Tarok[]Tarok was an Urgal commander under Durza at Farthen Dûr. He was third in command after Gashz and went missing in action during the battle. Tulkhqa[]Nar Tulkhqa was an Urgal war chief of great renown. He had been captured once by the humans and had a great deal of experience fighting them. He would ultimately be responsible for the brutal massacre of half of Galbatorix's army in the Spine, or as the Urgals would call it, Stavarosk. He lured the Imperial Army into a tight passage deep within the mountains, where they would be systematically surrounded and slaughtered by the Urgals and their Rams. Stavarosk became a legendary tale for the Urgals, though few non-Urgals apart from Angela, who seemed to know much of the battle. Y[]Yarbog[]Yarbog was an Urgal ram who challenged Roran for control of the company during a raid in Brisingr. When Roran defeated him, he asked Roran to kill him, but Roran told him it was not his role if he was going to die. |

B[]Birka (horse)[]Birka was one of Garrow's horses in Carvahall. Blagden (raven)[]Blagden was a white raven who lived in Ellesméra. Blagden saved the life of the elven king, Evandar, when he lost his balance and his sword during a duel with an Urgal. He pecked out the Urgal's eyes before it could strike. The elf king then blessed the raven with intelligence and long life, but the spell had other unintended effects; Blagden could sense the future and always spoke in riddles. His feathers also turned white. He speaks to Eragon in Eldest. Brugh (horse)[]Brugh was one of Garrow's horses in Carvahall. C[]Cadoc (horse)[]Cadoc was a horse that Eragon purchased from Haberth in Therinsford. Eragon named the animal "Cadoc", after his grandfather. He rode the horse during his travels with Brom. After Brom's death, Eragon sold Cadoc and took Snowfire as his own. This horse was the first other creature that Eragon touched his mind to other than Saphira. D[]Durza (Shade)[]Durza (born as the human Carsaib) was a Shade in the service of Galbatorix. He was one of Eragon's primary adversaries. He was one of two Shades in Alagaësia during Eragon's time; the other was Varaug. Durza was killed by Eragon, who thus earned the name Shadeslayer. F[]Folkvír (horse)[]Folkvír was the elven horse that carried Eragon into Ellesméra, and afterward to the Stone of Broken Eggs. He appears in Eldest and Brisingr. G[]Gildintor (horse)[]Gildintor was said by Brom to be the greatest steed of legend. When Brom bought Snowfire in Therinsford he said, "I will treat him as if he had been sired by Gildintor, the greatest steed of legend. Grimrr Halfpaw (werecat)[]'Grimrr Halfpaw, also known as Lord of the Lonely Places, Ruler of the Night Reaches and He Who Walks Alone, was a king of the werecats during the Rider War. Grimrr offered the Varden help in the King Cat chapter of Inheritance. He also disliked Angela very much because she previously taunted at him with a magic spell I[]Irnstad[]Irnstad was a Dragon Rider that lived sometime before Galbatorix's reign. He was one of only four beings to slay a Shade and live to tell the tale, the other three being Laetri the elf, Eragon and Arya. Irnstad's race and gender is never mentioned in the books. L[]Lorga (snake)[]Lorga was Trianna's familiar and protector. He was a golden replica of a serpent with large ruby eyes, whom Trianna brought to life through magic by blowing upon him, and saying "Sé orúm thornessa hávr sharjalví lífs", which means, "May this serpent have life's movement". Trianna used it as she tried to beguile Eragon in his room under Farthen Dûr. She may have been using it to try and hypnotize him as he 'felt as if he were tumbling into (the eyes') fiery depths; he could not look away no matter how hard he tried'. M[]Maud (werecat)[]Maud was a female werecat who lived in Du Weldenvarden with the elves. She is also known as the Watcher, Quickpaw, and the Dream Dancer. S[]Shadowhunter (werecat)[]Shadowhunter was a female werecat who was a mate to king Grimrr Halfpaw, making her the unnoffical queen of the werecats, and also the mother of Solembum. Unlike her mate, Shadowhunter seems to be friendly towards the herbalist Angela. Snowfire (horse)[]Snowfire was a magnificent white stallion, purchased by Brom in Therinsford. Although Haberth, Snowfire's owner, was hesitant to part with him, Brom promised to treat the animal "as if he had been sired by Gildintor, the greatest steed of legend". Reluctantly, Haberth agreed to sell Snowfire for two hundred crowns. Solembum (werecat)[]Solembum was a werecat with shaggy black fur and eyes of varying color, the companion of Angela the herbalist. His human appearance is that of a boy with shaggy black hair. While in his human form, he was often seen wielding a black dagger. He befriended Eragon in Teirm and later aided Eragon's quest on more than one occasion. He was present at the Battle of Farthen Dûr and the Battle of The Burning Plains. T[]Teachers of Galbatorix[]The Teachers of Galbatorix were the Rider and dragon mentors of Galbatorix before his descent into madness. Galbatorix was taught by several Elder Riders before the Fall, but he was angered by their denial to him of a new dragon when his first dragon was killed by Urgals. During the Fall Galbatorix personally hunted down and killed all the Riders who had instructed him in the past. Oromis stated that he "was glad that he had not taught him" as he would not have survived. There are no surviving Human or Elven teachers left alive, but it is highly probable that some of his dragon tutors are still alive, though only preserved through their Eldunari, either among those Galbatorix enslaved or from the Vault of Souls. Tornac (horse)[]Tornac was Murtagh's gray war horse, whom was named after Murtagh's mentor while in Urû'baen. V[]Varaug (Shade)[]Varaug was a shade created by three of Galbatorix's sorcerers during the siege of Feinster. Though stronger than Durza, he was slain almost immediately by Arya with the aid of Eragon. |
