Clanmeet is the 35th chapter of Brisingr. It takes place from the view of Eragon.
Summary[]
Orik tells Eragon that some smiths of Dûrgrimst Ingeitum identified the daggers of his would-be assassins as the work of Kiefna Long-nose. Then, Orik was able to track the daggers from Kiefna to an armorer in Dalgon who sold them to a woman with seven fingers on each hand. He and his warriors were able to find her and interrogate her. They learned that a dwarf had hired her to buy the daggers and deliver them to a wine merchant, who would take them away. By questioning the city's merchants, Orik discovered that the wine merchant went to a city owned by Dûrgrimst Az Sweldn rak Anhûin. Next, he tracked the assassins to an abandoned storeroom in Tronjheim, where they captured three dwarves, who were all the evidence they needed.
At the meeting, Orik gives a great speech. Then, he explains to the council what he told Eragon earlier. He brings the evidence of Dûrgrimst Az Sweldn rak Anhûin's guilt to the meeting. It is agreed that they are guilty of a great crime against a guest. However, Grimstborith Vermund says that, since Eragon is part of Dûrgrimst Ingeitum, he can be treated as would any dwarf. Luckily, the readers-of-law decided that Vermund was wrong. Vermund then declared that his imprisonment will be treated as an act of war. Orik proposes that the clanmeet do as Vermund wishes; they should banish Dûrgrimst Az Sweldn rak Anhûin until they repent. It is done. Then, Orik calls for a vote on whether they are ready to elect a new king. It is decided. A new king will be elected within three days. Eragon joyously realizes that it's time to call Saphira.
