Az Sweldn rak Anhûin, or The Tears of Anhûin, was a dwarf clan devoted to mourning the death of their former leader, Anhûin, as well as to avenge her by destroying all Dragon Riders, regardless of whether they served Galbatorix or the Varden. They were formerly led by Vermûnd. Their clan members dressed in purple and wore veils. Their original name before the Dragon War is unknown, as they only took their current name after Anhûin's death after the war.

History[]

The knurlan of this clan have a tragic history. Long ago, before the Fall of the Riders, the clan was among the oldest, richest families of the dwarven kingdom. Unfortunately, Their doom was sealed, though, by two mistakes: they lived on the western edge of the Beor Mountains, and they volunteered their greatest warriors in the Dragon Rider's leader, Vrael’s service after the rogue dragon rider Galbatorix and his thirteen dragon rider supporters had declared war on the riders. Galbatorix, his dragon Shruikan, and his 12 remaining ever-cursed Forsworn (one of them, Glaerun, had died during the Battle of Vroengard against the Riders, along with his dragon) slaughtered hundreds them during the Battle of Urû’baen. Of that clan, only Grimstcarvlorss Anhûin and her guards survived. Anhûin soon died of grief, and her men took the name Az Sweldn rak Anhûin, The Tears of Anhûin, covering their faces to remind themselves of their loss and their desire for revenge.

Encountering Eragon in Tarnag[]

Eragon encountered Az Sweldn rak Anhûin in Tarnag, on his way to Ellesméra. The clan, furious that Hrothgar had adopted Eragon into Dûrgrimst Ingeitum, declared themselves Eragon's blood enemies. Eragon's hosts, Grimstborith Ûndin and Grimstborith Gannel, protected Eragon for the duration of his stay.

In Tronjheim[]

After the Battle of The Burning Plains, Eragon again encountered Az Sweldn rak Anhûin under Tronjheim. The clan sent seven assassins to murder Eragon and his four dwarven guards. Although outnumbered, Eragon and his guards fought bravely. They managed to kill all the assassins, losing Kvîstor, one of Eragon's guards, as well as sustaining minor injuries.

Banishment[]

Orik proved to the other clans that Az Sweldn rak Anhûin had tried to murder Eragon using magicians and traced each dagger the assassins held back to the dwarven city of Dalgon. Vermûnd was also revealed to have personally ordered the attack. The clan was banished from dwarven society until they replaced Vermûnd, who was permanently banished, with a more moderate grimstborith, acknowledged their villainy in the attempted assassination, and repented of it to the clanmeet, even if it took a thousand years.
