Eragon's necklace was a pendant given to Eragon by Gannel.[1] It was a simple piece consisting of a chain and a small silver hammer inscribed with "Astim Hefthyn,"[1] meaning "Sight Guard." It was enchanted by Gannel to prevent anyone from scrying the wearer at Hrothgar's request, for fear that Galbatorix might try to scry Eragon.[1] The spell was designed to draw energy from the wearer and would wake them should they be scryed in their sleep.[1] Eragon was worried that Gannel may have placed other spells in it, however on examination, neither he[1] nor Oromis[2] could find any other enchantments on it.
