Fionula was the name of one of the mountains in the great forest Du Weldenvarden south west of the elven capital of Ellesméra.

The other three mountains were Ethrundr, Merogoven, and Griminsmal.

Etymology[]

The name Fionnuala is derived from the Old Irish Finnguala, literally meaning 'fair shoulder'.

Real World Connection[]

In Irish mythology, Fionnuala is the daughter of the sea god Lir and sister to Manannán mac Lir, king of Tír na nÓg (the Otherworld).

In 995 A.D., King Kenneth II of Scotland was assassinated by a Lady Finella (Fionnuala) of Fettercairn Castle who desired revenge, because her son was put to death on orders of King Kenneth II for his crimes against people.
