The Gaena River was a river in Du Weldenvarden that connected to both the Eldor Lake and the Ardwen Lake. It waters were generally calm and glassy, although a curve downstream from the Ardwen lied a waterfall a hundred feet tall.[1] It was impossible to climb due to the water streaming down the face at an overhang in the stone.[1]

Role[]

In Eldest[]

Eragon, Saphira, Orik, Arya, Lifaen, and Narí traveled upstream the Gaena from the outskirts of Du Weldenvarden to Sílthrim.[2] On the journey up the Gaena, Murtagh tried to scry Eragon but was blocked by Eragon's amulet.[1][3]

In Inheritance[]

At the end of the fourth book, Roran, Eragon and Arya, Saphira, Fírnen, and a few other elves travelled along this river on the Talíta as Eragon and Saphira prepared to leave Alagaësia. They sailed the opposite direction as it had been done in Eldest, sailing downstream from Sílthrim.[4]

Trivia[]

Although Eldest does describe the large waterfall on the river,[1] it is not mentioned again in Inheritance when they sail on the Gaena in a large masted ship.[4]
