Garjzla was a word in the Ancient Language meaning "light". It was used by the Shade Durza in the prologue to Eragon in which he raised his hand and uttered the word, causing a ball of red fire to spring from his palm and smite Arya's horse, which died and collapsed, and soon after Arya (just after teleporting Saphira's egg), though it did not kill her. It is also one of the spells in the Eragon game.

Trivia[]

  • Although Shades are creatures of shadow, Durza uses "light" to bring down foes.
  • Eragon used the spell "Garjzla, letta!" in Brisingr, which translates as "light, stop".
