The Ghastgar was a rather unusual Dwarvish contest, in which two Dwarves rode at each other on Feldûnost from a distance of seventy feet. At a distance of thirty feet, one dwarf threw a javelin, whilst the other attempted to block it with a buckler or catch it.

This was typically performed during a celebratory event, most often at a wedding or at an ever rarer event, like a Coronation. [1]

Role in the Books Edit

Eragon was able to witness to this event when he was staying at Bregan Hold with Orik. One of the dwarves, who was participating in this contest, was a coward and rode away. He was duly defeated and brought shame upon his family.
