Lady Lorana was the Governor of Feinster, a port city residing in the Southern part of the Broddring Empire, and was forced to swear an oath in the Ancient Language to serve King Galbatorix, the king threatening to destroy her city and kill all her subjects if she did not comply to his demands. Lorana was an extremely kind and just ruler, earning her the love and devotion of Feinster's citizens and inspired great loyalty among her soldiers and subjects.

She allowed a small portion of Galbatorix's forces to reside in her city walls after The Battle of The Burning Plains in an attempt to wear out the approaching Varden forces, although most of the soldiers declared they would not swear loyalty to the king even if he held a dagger to their throat, stating their loyalty was to Lady Lorana. She sent out battalions of soldiers to pester and stall the Varden and during the Battle of Feinster she locked herself within her city's keep with loyal soldiers guarding the courtyard while her army battled against the invading forces of the Varden, ordering her warriors to protect the city's inhabitants. She retreated to the top of her tower where she was joined by three dark hooded spell casters Galbatorix had sent to help defend the city. The three magicians assessed the situation and deemed the battle hopeless, so attempted to create a Shade to do as much harm as they could to the Varden at the risk of their own lives. Lady Lorana, unable to raise a hand against Galbatorix's subjects, nor order them to surrender as they only responded to orders of the king and his new rider, pleaded with Eragon and Arya to stop them before they released a Shade onto her city. The combined forces of Arya, Eragon and Saphira helped them kill two of the magicians while the third was able to raise a Shade named Varaug before being killed herself by Arya. With the help of Eragon and Saphira, Arya also managed to stab the Shade in the heart and Lady Lorana expressed her gratitude towards them and allowed them to capture her, her priorities shifting immediately towards the safety of her people at the hands of the Varden, concerned that the Varden might plunder her now-almost-defenseless city and would meet with Nasuada to discuss her citizens fate.

The last remaining forces of Feinster surrendered after seeing Lady Lorana had been captured and despite being on opposite sides of the war, she said she admired Eragon's bravery and prowess, as well as bade him farewell before being taken away by Jƶrmundur to discuss the fate of her citizens.

After Galbatorix's death and the end of the Rider War, Lorana and the rest of the citizens of Feinster who's oaths of loyalty to Galbatorix in the Ancient Language was forced upon them by Galbatorix's agents were released from their oaths by Eragon using the Name of the Ancient Language. Due to her willing surrender to the Varden, her kindness to her subjects and the fact she only supported Galbatorix out of concern for her subjects, it can be assumed that Lorana returned to her position as ruler of Feinster, now under King Orrin's rule and part of a now-expanded Surda.
