In Eldest, Gannel gave Eragon a necklace in the form of a small silver hammer that was imbued with magical properties to prevent anyone from scrying the wearer. Eragon was worried that Gannel may have placed other spells in it, however he did not find any. If anyone tried to scry someone wearing this necklace, it would drain the wearer of their energy.
