Sarros was a thin human male mercenary hired by Murtagh to find word of 'what he sought', bringing the son of Morzan a blackened stone, only to turn on Murtagh with his band.
History[]
Sarros and his followers were hired by the wandering Dragon Rider Murtagh Morzansson to help him in his investigations.
Several months after going into self-imposed exile after the Rider War, Murtagh and Thorn began investigating something based of the warnings given to them by the dragon Umaroth (it is implied than Murtagh was investigating something important and dangerous on behalf of his half-brother Eragon and Queen Nasuada). To confirm his suspicions of the dark forces he suspected to be at play, Murtagh hired Sarros and his band to assist him, despite his obvious distaste for them. Promising them a small satchel of gold Crowns in return for investigating 'the reaches' for word of who or what Murtagh sought.
Sarros was not lying in his claim and during his 3 months of searching, the money-hunters found not only word of what was sought, but also proof of something else ... Suspicions of shadows, of a field of stone scattered, all seared by fire, but with no sign of flames around them. Gaining such a blackened stone as proof, the stone was not the only thing the mercenaries found. During the travels, the band seemed to encounter things called 'The Dreamers', though whether these Dreamers are humans, spellcasters or something worse cannot be said. Whatever they were, they seemingly took control of Sarros and his comrades, apparently forcing them to turn on Murtagh. Sarros and his friends also encountered a witch-woman named Bachel, who utilised wordless magic to forge amulets that protected the band from the Name of the Ancient Language.
Arriving to rendezvous with 'Tornac of the Road' in Ceunon after three months, the brigands found the former Imperial conversing with Essie in the Fulsome Feast Inn. Greeting his client with the sly hiss in his tone, Sarros, replying to 'Tornac's answer that he had been waiting for him with the retort that 'the reaches' were growing dangerous in this age, then pulls an empty chair between Essie and Murtagh/Tornac while his six men stood by. Gesturing at the young girl with a pointed figure, Sarros demands Essie be sent away, but Murtagh refuses, wishing to gently discourage Essie's foolish plan to run away. Hissing with a shake of the head, Sarros calls the Wanderer foolish, but chooses not to continue arguing, instead waving away Morzansson's complaint regarding length of time Sarros had taken, reminding him what he said of the dangers of the reaches, then informs the travelling Rider had found not just whispers, but also proof, producing the blackened stone from his leather purse and placing it upon the table. When 'Tornac' asks what the rock was exactly, Sarros, shrugging, told him that the stone stood out against the ordinary, then nods in answer to Murtagh's askings if there were more stones and the oddness regarding their appearance. An unpleasant smile twitches over Sarros's lips replies cryptically to Essie's questioning regarding the stone's origins. However, as Murtagh reaches to clasp the stone, Sarros cages the rock behind his fingers, demanding payment first, which Murtagh relents to after a moments slight anger. Grin widening as he opened the payment-containing pouch, Sarros answered Murtagh's demand for information before he was fully paid with a choking chuckle.
