Shadows of the Past is the 13th chapter of Brisingr. It takes place from the view of Eragon.

Summary[]

Eragon and Arya travel back towards the Varden. Eragon thinks about getting Ascûdgamln and Arya talks about her life. Saddened by memories of Gil'ead, Eragon grows a flower for her. They then discuss The Banishing of the Names. The pair encounter Spirits which turn the flower to gold while it's still alive. Afterwards, Eragon and Arya discuss spirits.
