The Secret Lives of Ants is the 33rd chapter of Eldest. It takes the point of view of Eragon.
Summary[]
During this chapter Eragon takes on a task set by Oromis, to sit on a log, and open his mind to all living beings. Eragon pays close attention to ants only, and fails the task, as Oromis wants him to be able to focus on all the living organisms. They discuss his blessing of a child (Elva), and Oromis is appalled to discover that Eragon's incorrect choice of words has made her "a shield from misfortune."
Trivia[]
This chapter contains a passage familiar to many fans where, while they bathe in the stream, Eragon shows curiosity at seeing Oromis’s naked body and is surprised to see he has no body hair.
