The Traders were a group of nomadic merchants and troubadours who visited Carvahall every spring and winter. They sold items such as seeds and animals in return for the farmers' excess crops. The troubadours did not buy or sell but told stories and provided entertainment. When Eragon first acquired Saphira's egg, he talked with Merlock, one of the traders, to find out the "stone's" worth.
