This unidentified individual was a female spellcaster of the Imperial Army who participated in the creation of the Shade Varaug during the Siege of Feinster.

History[]

At some point in time, this woman likely swore loyalty to Galbatorix and Broddring Empire, presumably in the Ancient Language and took up residence in the Imperial City of Feinster, possibly as part of the small portion of Galbatorix's Army that Lady Lorana allowed within Feinster along with her own loyal troops. She was shown to be a spellweaver skilled at spirit-summoning and the dark arts, including how to summon evil Spirits to take possession of another in order to create a Shade, a spell likely she was most likely taught by Galbatorix.

On the night of the Varden's Attack on Feinster, this women, along with two other unidentified male Imperial Magicians encountered the elves Arya and Blödhgarm, who were trying to enter the city under the cover of the of the attack to open the magic-impervious gates the Varden, who had been trying to break for three days from within, and engaged the two elves with their minds, preventing them from using magic while they summoned troops to overwhelm the elves with sheer numbers, a extraordinary feat, as Arya and Blödhgarm were two of the most powerful spellweavers of their race. However, at the sight of Eragon and Saphira, the spellcasters fled to the still-defended forty-foot-tall gates to the city, where they were later seen by Eragon, standing before the ironbound doors, chanting in the ancient language and swaying from side to side with upheld arms, before immediately falling silent after noticing Eragon and his companions and, with their dark robed flapping, running up the main street of Feinster, which lead to the Feinster Keep at the far side of the city. Instead of re-joining the battle, the women and her companions barricaded themselves in the Keep of Feinster with Lady Lorana and a third man garbed in a similar fashion, where, protected by Lady Lorana loyal soldiers, they continued to observe the battle. During the battle, Eragon noted that he couldn’t sense the minds of any Imperial spellcasters but the three spellcasters, who kept their minds carefully closed to him. Finally, under the conclusion that they could not hope to drive off the Varden and as Galbatorix had not sent reinforcements to their aid, the three began to weave a spell in a attempt to summon as many evil spirits as they could to possess their fourth companion in order to create a Shade in the psychotic hope that the monster would attack to Varden and spread pain, sorrow and confusion within their ranks, not caring that if they succeeded, a Shade might just as easily turn against them and everyone else in Feinster, much to Lady Lorana’s horror. Unfortunately, Lorona was unable to order them to stand down, as the trio answered only to Galbatorix and his new dragon and rider servants, Thorn and Murtagh. Nor was she able to summon warriors to destroy the spellcasters, as she had been forced to swear allegiance to Galbatorix with a oath that could not be broken, rendering her unable to raise a finger against him or his servants. As the spellweavers ritual began, the room they and Lady Lorana were residing in was entered by Eragon and Arya, who witnessed the three spellcasters facing each other, oblivious to the twos presences, the hoods of their robes thrown back and their arms extended out to each side, so that the tips of their fingers touched, swayed in unison, murmuring an unfamiliar spell in the ancient language while a fourth person sat in the middle of the triangle they formed: a man garbed in an identical fashion, but who said nothing, and who grimaced as if in pain. At Lorana’s pleadings, Eragon, Arya and a newly-arrived Saphira attacked the three spellcasters, who’s voices were rising continuously, the words of their spell ringing with unusual force and lingering in the air long after they should have faded to silence. The man who sat at their feet, meanwhile, gripped his knees, his entire body shuddering as he thrashed his head from side to side. After killing both men, Eragon moved towards the women, who only visible reaction to her companions deaths was to increase her chanting while yellow foam encrusted the corners of her mouths, spittle flew from her lips, and the whites of her eyes showed, but still making no attempt to flee or to attack. As Eragon moved toward the female spellcaster, a cluster of multi-coloured lights hurtled into the room through the broken shutters and converged upon the man seated on the floor, spirits the women had summon. Despite Eragon slaying the women with a single sword thrust before he was plagued with one of blackout he was experiencing due to his possession of the dragon, Glaedr’s Eldunarí, her ritual was complete as the spirits she summoned created the Shade, Varaug.

Personality[]

This woman appeared to be utterly loyal to Galbatorix and the Empire, being ready to give her life to stop the Varden and answering only the Galbatorix, his right-hand man Murtagh and Murtagh's dragon Thorn, the latters being Galbatorix's representatives. She is also extremely chaotic and psychotic, being described by Lady Lorana as not caring that a Shade might just as well turn against them as it would the Varden, only wishing to cause as much pain and destruction as she could before she died, which also showed she was insane or at least mentally-unstable. The fact that she did not care that a Shade she created might destroy Feinster meant that she was also extremally ruthless, not hesitating to create a monster that could destroy everyone in the city she lived in.
