This unnamed individual participated the Battle of Urû'baen, where he defended the black citadel of Urû'baen. As Eragon and his companions made their way deeper into the lair of Galbatorix, they were temporarily halted by twenty black-robed enemy human spellweavers, man and women alike, filed out of a sideway passageway and formed a like in front of the group, blocking the way and beginning to chant in the ancient language, their wards protecting them from even Saphira's fire, which passed harmlessly around them. Despite his great power and the 135 Eldunarí with him, Eragon only defended himself and did not attack in turn for the man and his nineteen companion's chanting concerned him, for they were willing to cast spells before they had seized control of his mind—as well as those of his companions—then they no longer cared if they lived or died, only that they stopped the intruders. During the confrontation, this man faced of against the witch-child, Elva, who was saying something about the man's daughter. Before Elva could stop the man completely though, Eragon purposely set of one of the halls traps, which activated two horizontal sheet of metal—thirty feet long and four inches thick—to shoot out of each wall with a terrible screech. The plates of metal caught the magicians between them and cut them in two, like a pair of giant tin snips, then just as quickly retreated back into their hidden slots, causing Elva to faint.
