Weldon was chosen by Brom to succeed him as the leader of a rebel group known as the Varden. This gave Brom time to pursue his passion of hunting down Morzan. Weldon was the leader of the Varden for over twenty years before he was succeeded by Deynor. He led the Varden when Arya began representing her people as ambassador, and even traveled with her for a time. Arya gave Eragon a brief history of the leadership of the Varden.
